I assume this is the rule that says 16 year old school leavers can't work full time until the official end of term date, in order to prevent those with earlier birthdays gaining an advantage by leaving on their 16th birthday, as was the case in the old days?

Tom there is only one "Smokeless Zone" and that is the City of London. This was made smokeless prior to the passing of the clean air Act 1956 which introduced "Smoke Control Areas".

My House is a smokeless zone & has been since 1988 (when I moved in} However it is possible to date this back to 1974 but am unaware of the previous tennants habits!

But that is just the point it isn't "smoke free". It is "smoke controlled".

Now that is very much an overused word. I actually blame modern education and the reduction in subscriptions to Readers Digest. ("It pays to increase your word power").

 

You could have said "uninteresting", "wearisome", "tedious", "tiresome" any number of words but boring means nothing as it is so overused for the most mundane of reasons.
