Archaeology. Just finished second year. I finished after my last exam on 3 June! The Invisible Student (my son) packed up the Wednesday of the week before (different uni, different degree)!

 

Basically it's because unis don't have half terms, I think.

Of course you can legally work. Anyone can subject to things like work permits, where necessary, and perhaps qualifications for a particular type of employment.

If you are under 16 you need a work permit, you can't work as many hours as someone over 16 and there are some jobs you just aren't allowed to do. I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but I came across a UNICEF report earlier this year which concentrated on the exploitation of child labour and included some information about the state of things in the UK (which isn't as squeaky clean as the present incumbent of St Albion's would have us believe). It also included some of the legal requirements which are often overlooked.
