Just a quick update...

Not the best of Saints performances against a workmanlike K's side. Simon Martin put us ahead with a powerful volley from Gary Crawshaw's headed pass but K's equalised with a close-range effort about 10 minutes before half time.

Second half we played better and Simon Martin scored again, rifling the ball home through the keeper's legs but K's equalised again when one of their players was allowed to advance unchallenged and score with a deft chip to Wilmot's right. Scott Oakes thundered a free kick against the bar late in the game but all in all a draw was a fair result.

They were allowed to dictate to us too much in midfield, and thats what gave the second goal away as the guy had far too much time.

We lost much of our impetus by the double substitution after we scored the second goal, we withdrew the full backs, and lost our now customary passing style in favour of Brown's "hoof". Therefore we were gifting them possesion back and they were a more than useful outfit who made us pay and were very good value for the point!

Despite that, we played well for long periods in the first half, shame we couldn't build on things after regaining the lead as Gary seemed to panic for the first time this season, and maybe we paid the price.

Had a terrible journey and was starting to wonder if it would be worth the effort, but I thought it was a terrific game. Two teams trying to play proper football, lots of skill shown on both sides, and whilst disappointed we didn't win, frankly I felt the result was fair.

Based on last night, I can see why you are top of the league, but it gave me hope that we can mount a decent challenge. OK so we've only played 3 so far, but your team are head and shoulders above what we have faced so far, and I was encouraged that K's rose to the challenge .

thanks for a great evening!

Fair comment.

For us, I thought the shape was wrong in midfield. Challinor was outnumbered in the middle and Smith and Hollenbach seemed both to be trying to play the same role down the left wing. The shape was much better when Oakes came on.

Also Crawshaw was heavily marked by at least two defenders much of the game so his chances were limited.

Having said that, we hit the bar twice and had the chances to nick it, as did K's.
