I am not sure if I will be allowed to post this positive football related post - but here goes!

 

What are peoples views on the Womens Euro 2005 cup on at the momment?

 

It has been intresting to watch the teams and I have been impressed by Yankey the left sided England player, her ability to get in behind defences and then put the ball into the box remind me of the Mullet!

 

Who else has been watching?

i must say its nice to see it getting so much coverage now, not so long ago tv stations refused to touch even the results let alone provide any coverage of the matches themselves...of course there will always be those eedjits who claim women's football isn't as good/ exciting/ competitive/ important as the mens, but hopefully with the media coming on side the respect for women's football will grow

I saw the second half of the Sweden Finland game, and was very impressed with the standard of football, some great passing by both teams.

i watched some of it while flicking around, turned on to see some promising attacks, but then again to see the replay of the danish first goal, and then saw them score again <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

seen some bits of them before they look quite good

I think the recognition and respect is growing, but some pundits have been saying the publicity hasn't been as good as it could have been, especially considering it's on home soil. Personally I think the quality of football has grown significantly over the years, having watched parts of Women's FA Cup finals etc here and there, and I did think the England-Finland game was pretty good with a nice exciting finish.

It's just good to be able to watch some football...

although watching England women throw away the game against Denmark, was as frustrating as watching the England mens team do the same.

Shame none of the games are in the south otherwise might have gone.

I've not been impressed at all. If this is the 'top' of the Womens's game it's rather poor. Although i've been told USA are alot better.

 

Still it fills a hole.

I am a bit surprised at your comments Woody, I would think anything is an improvement on the standard of football you have been watching all season.

Our first team played some fantastic football for the first few weeks and our reserves played some blinding football towards the end of the season i'll have you know!*

That would be me then! The standard has clearly improved over recent years as more women take up the game but the tempo is too slow and the inability to defend any aerial ball is quite laughable (makes us seem solid on corners). But still a nice diversion in a summer without any other football.

Well said Martin, not meaning to be sexist but its not as good as blokey footy- not to knock those who play! As long as they swap shirts at full time who cares! They are good at makign the half time tea and washing the shirts though (lets see if i get a bite )
