Retained Players

[color:"blue"]Cookie, got to look at this from a positive perspective... We finished last season with a squad of

Nej Hussein /Peter Trego

Darren Annon / Aaron Barnett / Bill Edwards /Mark Green / Greg Oates /Ross Smith

Peter Benevides / Alexis Charalambous /Adrian Clarke / Pat Gradley /John Keister / Eseyas Yhdego

Rocky Baptiste /Moses Jjunju / Che Stadhart /Darren Watson

To date none of the above have been reported as signing elsewhere ... so we are presumably holding their registration. That's a good point to start from isn't it?

I agree that would be a formidable squad.

However, i thought all were out of contract.

However hopefully all will re-sign.

What normally happens though is that the players cast their name about, get invited to play friendlies/train from July onwards for other sides; and then CK seems to have to see what he's left with come early August.

That unfortunately seems to have been the pattern over last two seasons.

Nice to be talking football just the same !!

I wonder if Conor Lander will get a permit and be signed up for the Gate.

Sounded just the type of defensive midfielder needed to protect the defence

I think for the last 4 seasons CK has not given enough attention to midfield-essential to protect the defence and also Rocky,Darren and Che were having to make their own chances most of the time last season

quote (Cookie) [color:"red"]Peter. I was joking as we know Bill has a benefit and so he will be here. Wasnt a "dig" or a "serious" comment though Bill staying here is true!

[color:"blue"]I realised that Cookie, just looking at the squad from a 'glass is half full' rather than the 'glass is half empty' point of view.

Seriously I'd guess we'll retain most of the squad for the new season - finances permitting. Would think the main doubts are Trego (distance) plus Oates, Green, Barnett, Gradley, Baptiste and Stadhart all of whom would slot in easily to a higher division than Ryman Premier.

Let's be honest here. Like the manager they are adopting a "wait and see" stance re the embargo and ground development. Have all the outstanding wages owed to players from last AND the previous season been paid yet? I would be very surpised if we start the new season with the 18 players listed in the earlier postings. Some are bound to get better offers from conference clubs (JK and Oates for sure and possibly Clarke; and others will go if the issues mentioned aren't resolved. Don't think there will be much movement on the player front for a few weeks yet though.

quote: JKMaskell[color:"red"] But with the embargo still being in force, doesnt that make it slightly difficult to add to the squad?

[color:"blue"]Under the embargo we can't add to the squad, but can replace players if they leave - so if, say Peter Trego, were to leave we could sign a replacement. So to infuse the squad with new blood we need to 'lose' some players first. Though most, if not all, were playing on a 'non contract' basis we would still retain their registration until they signed elsewhere. So if no-one signs elsewhere we can't sign replacements. at least I think that's how it works .. if I've got it wrong can someone correct me.

Good. Let's hope offers come in for Trego, Baptiste and Charalambous though I doubt it somehow, and then we might be able to improve the squad!

im not going to kick off anything with this comment, but after looking at the Clubs last financial accounts, I cant see how they can pay the players.

If you can change players whilst keeping to the same number without breaking rules its all good. The most important thing right now is getting Hartsdown Park built and getting the CVA successfuly negotiated. If they can be done properly there is a hope for the club.

I'm not so sure Greg would find it easy to get another club straight away-is his fitness proven post-op.

JK-age issue

Barnett-decent player but not a mega star(though still could not understand why he did not play more under CK)

Green-star in making but needs to prove full recovery.

To my mind its Ross Smith who has biggest potential to do better himself.

Maybe, just maybe , there may be a bit of loyalty to the club and CK and all will stay ?

What will be difficult is only replacing once another leaves and so you are always 'second to the post'.

However as alluded to above, we do not yet know the outcome of the administrators looking through the books.Lets not forget that their initial role is to decide if the club can be saved in the first instance

It would be good to see Conor Lander in the squad after his problems of red tape last season. We were fortunate that both Ross and Peter(B) had dual nationalities and were able to get round the red tape regarding work permits etc. The poor lad spent his savings in his efforts to play over here. All the different nationalities and characters help the club to be a vibrant mix and so much the better for it. It makes Margate a real "alternative" to the mainstream in all sorts of ways.
