Listen.

Man Utd are on the way down. Even the most blinkered of Man Utd fans can see that.

Sure, they'll qualify for the Champions League each season, assuming English clubs continue to get four places, but Chelsea and Arsenal are way out ahead, and United have a hell of a way to go before they can be considered genuine title contenders again.

Who could have foreseen what happened to Liverpool in the 90s? They ruled Europe, let alone the English league in the 70s and 80s, but they haven't won a league title since 1990.

This, I'm afraid to say, is what is going to happen to Man Utd. This gives me no pleasure, because of the Top three, I'd want Man Utd to win the league every time, but it's cold, hard fact.

I would offer you a bet that Robinson will not leave Tottenham for Man Utd, but seeing as one of you Ricay lot still owe Thornsy £3,000 for a bet placed earlier in the season - one of you was daft enough to think that St Albans and Ricay would swap league places come the end of the season - I couldn't be sure of picking up my winnings.

Just remember. United were considered a massive club in the 70s and 80s too, but didn't win a championship for 26 years between 1967 and 1993.

It can, and will, happen again.

In answer to your question, the last trophy we won, excluding the 'worthless cup' as you so originally put it, was the FA Cup in 1991. I was there.

How often do you go to watch United??

1) I no longer supported United since Glazier took over

2) Just because I live in the south-east does’nt mean I am a glory hunter when I supported united as most of my dads family are (were) avid united fans and my granddad was a season ticket holder for nearly 40 years and my nan still lives in Salford so it really gets on my tits when people call me a glory hunter. Last time I went was start of 04/05

3) 20 quid say Robinson leaves spurs by Jan 31sr 2006

only arsenal and everton can really claim to have been at the cutting edge of english football for pretty much the duration of the professional game..

i hope man u go through a phrase of mid table nothing ness or even get relegated, its good for the game to see clubs ebb and flow ..

most people dont look back past the start of the prem, but have a look at the forst seasons prem table there are some surprising names in there.. clubs fortunes come n go and man u will be no different...

nottingham forest will be playing southend this coming season, er didnt they win a european pot or two.. mind you southen were playing newcastle derby sunderland et al bk in the early 90's in the old div one..

sheffield wednesday and man city are good recent examples of 'big' clubs going walkabout from the top flight..

man u penniless and in the championship , now that would be funny

Arsenal are way ahead Zealster ? I think not.

did you see the FA Cup final. I know they won on penalities, but for a team so far ahead, you would have expected them to at least have a shot on target in the 90mins.

United pissed on them and only have themselves to blame for not winning. (Not to mention taking six points and beating them in the Worthington.)

Actually for a team so far ahead shouldn't they have won it about 8-0 ?

Do you honestly think you have a hope in hell's chance of winning the title next season? Chelsea and Arsenal will both finish 15+ points ahead of Man Utd.

"I no longer supported United since Glazier took over" - as loyal as the average arm-chair plastic red, then.

"20 quid say Robinson leaves spurs by Jan 31sr 2006" - how do I get my cash seeing as our respective non-league clubs are at different levels?

"Tell you what if I see 'em I throw in a chas n dave signed Spurs shirt." - Aha! Admitting defeat in your bet already, then!

Can you exchange signed Chas'n'Dave shirts by Paypal?

Gertcha - it pains me to say it but yes, Arsenal are well ahead of Man Utd.

Sure, you got the upper hand in your two league games, but player-for-player, Arsenal are stronger in pretty much every position. I will concede that I think United have better strength in depth, though - probably the reason you won the League Cup clash.

For me, the root of the problem lies with Sir Alex. He's past it, and if Glazer knows anything about football, he'll give Alex a golden handshake, thanks for your services etc. etc., but we're gonna give a younger guy the chance. It's stale there at the minute.

Giggs and Keane have a season, possibly two, left each. Van Nistelrooy and Ferdinand are both heavily rumoured to be leaving. Your keeper is crap, and that needs addressing. Teams are not scared of playing at Old Trafford anymore.

Number of reasons

Increase ticket prices to false out the real fans i.e the people of Salford who struggle to afford tickets anyway to make more money off tourists and rich London types

Sell the players which he may have to do to service the huge debt he has dumped on the club through the purchase

Increase merchandise costs

sell the ground, training ground etc when the debt really starts to mount

surely the head of a plc should be maximising revenue..if the red army in surrey can fill old trafford at 75 quid a pop then that will mean man u gettting all the best players again..

actually you do make some good points there but im afraid i do find it funny.. when he does flog the ground n lease it back it will be the beginning of the end..

But if you don't regularly go to matches, I fail to see why these issues affect you personally.

Sure, ticket prices will go up, and you may have to sell a few players, but hey, that is part and parcel of supporting 99.9% of football teams in this country.

You don't see Scunthorpe or Grimsby fans ditching their club just because they have to offload their best players or if their club is taken over by someone they don't like the look of.

Just because you're Man Utd, it doesn't give you the divine right to expect success. It has to be earned, same as it does at any club.

I'd be more convinced of your claims at not being a glory-hunter if you just took what has happened on the chin, and vowed to support them through the bad times as well as the good.

I'm with Zeal on this, by doing the double over Aresnal and playing them off the park in the final isn't a justification that Man U are better, the best/worst teams are always determined on league placings. By gertchas theroy than Norwich are better than Man U and Newcastle are better than Chelsea.

Shouldn't Man U supporters from Salford or Norway wait to see what Glazier does before casting doubts.

I don't like St.Albans cahirman but I still go every week

I see you’re point regarding the chairmen of a PLC should be maximising revenue as that is of course a PLC main objective and I believe legal requirement but soon it will soon no longer be a PLC as Glazier can de-list the company at anytime as he has over 75% but he wants to wait until he has 90%.

The raising of revenue also shouldn’t be done at the expense of the clubs core supporters i.e. the people of Salford (who personally I would sell tickets to at a discount rate as the club may enough money commercially to cover this) it should be done by clobbering the people of Surrey and Thailand etc who’s little brat wants the new kit every bloody year

I would take what happened on the chin if it wasn’t going to destroy the club which it will I still went to Ricay games when I felt Basildon would destroy the club; you only have to look at the list of players sold and the drop in attendances to see how badly that affected the club and despite Steve Kent being in charge and turning things round attendances are still affected; and I had more information than most as dad worked for customs and the club could be in big, big trouble with the revenue who allegedly writing expenses off against tax, using the club has a tax haven for other business interests etc

Its not more serious than the club simply going through a rough few years the worst case scenario is man u going to wall and the fans setting up United FC something they inquired to the FA to find out which league they would have to start in.

Also the chairmen of shareholders united a glory hunter I think not says its not my club anymore my cousins have been to a few protests outside the ground and the common sites are burning merchandise, season ticket applications and Glazier effigies common sounds are I want my club back ‘n’ Malcolm Glaziers gunna die
