Dreamland Farce

When it was mentioned that Dreamland was going to remain open, I like others, was thrilled to bits. The one remaining attraction left that holiday-makers,not to mention the local families could visit in this town.

How disappointed I was this morning to visit with the kids to walk round the park yet was refused admittance UNLESS we payed £10 for tokens, which in turn permits you entry. What a con! On the front of Dreamland it states " Fun Park-Free admission". Yet no, £10 or no entry.I am in no way "tight" but this is wrong and will not be popular with the public. I took the kids elsewhere in the end and enjoyed a marvellous day.

I tackled the manager a Mr. Harry Ayres and mentioned that over the years free admission was allowed for people to just walk round and enjoy the sunshine. It was payable once to get in but then all rides were "free" all day.

My disappointment is that we should be able to just mosy on round and enjoy the day and as the kids dont always want to go the rides we could all take delight in others fun on the rides. Gone are those days it seems. Its all down to money.

Mr. Ayres explanation was that this £10 was to deter those thugs that hang around and generally make a nuisance of themselves, doping themselves up etc in public. Whilst I agree that those thugs are around in larger quantities these days it should not be at the expense of those families and kids that want to enjoy the day.

As I saw it the new rides weren't up to much anyway, looking in from the outside.

These people are taking the piss and dont tell me they wouldnt have let those thugs in had they had £10 in their pockets. Of course they would have been allowed in, thus proving their explanation as invalid.

Dreamland of old will and is sorely missed and these people I can assure you are going about things in the wrong way. They wont get people to go if they have to spend to enter in this way. The sign on the outside is misleading and should say "Fun Park, admission £10". That way people wont waste the time to even enter the grounds let alone the "fun park".

Dreamland of old was a great asset and was run adequately and fairly but now it seems the park has been taken over by scrupulous and money grabbing people, none of whom are to do with another company that have parks elsewhere in the country as we were led to believe.

As for Dreamland there is no improvement whatsoever.

A few people I spoke to also turned away from the park and were dismayed and disappointed about these tactics by the people running the show.

This will not work, either for the public or the owners and if they continue with this attitude this fine town will have an amusement park with no visitors and then we will be back to square one with no amusement park whatsoever again.

What a shame this has turned out to be this way.

Godden, you have done the dirty on the public of Thanet again by passing on the lease to people more dodgy than you are!

Its not a great situation. Im not happy that hes decided to abandon Dreamland. Hes said that he wont be opening the site next year.

One way of getting your point across is to talk to Nick Laister, man in charge of the Save Dreamland campaign. Im pretty sure he'll be interested in your views.

Itll be interesting to see what the Council makes of the Toussaint plans.

having to pay to gain entree is how it should be. i was as many people were im sure fed up with yobs, bumming about all day who spendt no money intimidating familys, and making the place look poor.

the place now has some top rides back i suggest you pay your cash and go in. its how it always was till JG ripped the [****!!****] out of it...

JG, is as dodgy as they come, sadly he has ripped the backside out of one of the last family places left in thanet, he has single handly destroyed ramsgate margate folkstone.... how he has been alowed to still remains a mistory to me.

hes putting DSS flats in place of the old and historic hotels in cliftonville, i tell you the council are as bad as him, what more he has been alowed to place a arcade in the highstreet even tho the council rejected it he appeald to a higher power and it was granted, there is still a massive hole where MR`B`s was he Jgodden is the destroyer...

oh to add, last summer season was the worst on record if im correct for holliday makers, can the council not see what they are doing.... what worries me is they can.

and to conclude i was bourn in the BemBomb era of dreamland where u paid you 5quid to go in and ride all day, imo it was at its very best at that point in its life excelent rides packed out and fun, if run like that again it would be awesome.

I cant believe the Council werent allowed to appeal against the Inspector. If I remember correctly Marks and Spencers is to be converted (well, the top floor) into 9 flats. Its ridiculous. We may not have a high street in a couple of years time.

I went to Dreamland during the time when the Big Wheel was in its last seasons. I still remember trying to spot my house from the heady heights of the Big Wheel. Going down to the place which used to be at the top of the High Street where they'd do you a lunch box of sorts which we'd enjoy near the arcades, which I believe is cleaned out...the ones next to the side exit.

I remember the Skymaster too...pretty cool. Alas no more.

I dont mind paying if the rides for the kids are "free" all day. THATS how it used to be! Or when you got in for "free" and paid everytime you had a ride. As for the "yobbo's" it was mentioned in my original post that if they had the cash they would have been let in anyway. Thats not keeping them out is it? The rides,in my view are crap now. I will be taking this further.

It could have been a loan...not necessarily a purchase payment. JG would own it but the Council will help finance it, of course with the condition that the money be paid back out of profits.

This is what Im guessing. I guess you will have to ask whoever was in charge at the time.

-----------------------------------------------Not one to normally say "I told you so" but in this case my self-quote & fears were justified & have been proved to be correct. Todays Local(page 9) states exactly the above and that they have now done away with the entrance fee because they are not getting people in! They arent too worried about those "THUGS" (not our thugs)l.o.l.) now are they? It was all about money & greed in the first place.

Result!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
