a good reason why english football is the best you saw it tonight....

Milan were superb in the fist half (and a little lucky) should have been a pool pen at 1-0...

but what a magnificent comeback.....no other team in the world could have done that tonight.....

wonderful wonderful wonderful.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Last night was something special.

Although I am a Spurs man, Liverpool in Europe doing the business is something fundemental amount the English game.

Also they always appear to have genuine fans, not glory hunting plastic ones like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Man U. Liverpool create a quality atmosphere when they come to the European stage.

Yes I grew up on watching Liverpool glory nights in Europe. The early rounds 1/4 finals and semi's on Sportsnight with Coleman, then the treat to have the final live on the box. I also saw the great Liverpool sides of the late 70's & 80's come to White Hart Lane etc.

Back in the 80s and beyond that, it was the real European Cup, ie the champions of each league, not the second, third or even fourth-placed club.

Teams from the same country could be drawn against each other from the outset ie Forest v Liverpool in 78-79. Now of course it is run by the G14(?) clubs, who whinge about divine rights for this, that and the other. Even had the Frog and the Sweaty moaning this season about their respective teams being knocked out early.

Ah bless em. And why on earth do the automatically drop into the UEFA Cup if they lose early doors?

Have to agree about the old days of the European Cup when only true champions qualified.

Last season, Liverpool finished 30 points behind Arsenal and qualified. This season they have finished 37 points behind Chelsea.

Fantastic victory last night and don't wish to take anything away from the present Liverpool side, but their predecessors did things by winning the league first to qualify.

...and twisted. If the result had gone the other way can you imagine the furore on Five Live and talkSPORT, giving it large about video replays. Of course that is all conveniently forgotten once an English club wins.

At the end of the day you need to be good and you need luck. Simple as that, plus when we beat AFC HX in at least one cup final next season with a crowd of over 1,000 plus!!! I'm lovin' it!

Just a thought on the subject of video replays.

Chevchenko was ruled offside when his goal was disallowed, but the ball was played back by a Liverpool defender, not one of his team mates. There were no complaints and no deluge of replays, but would Liverpool have come back if it had been 4-0 at halftime?
