That before the end of May we had most of the previous seasons squad signed up, four new signings in place to replace those who have gone and a Manager about to enter his second season with the Saints seemingly content with his playing staff.

 

Not very recently I would suggest.

.......107 triallists.......27 pre-season friendlies, [two on the same day was a novel idea last season, don't forget].....our old friends Hartlepool XI should bring in a gate of a couple of thousand at £12.50 as time.......rumours sweeping the region that a 43 year old ex Arsenal & England captain might pull on the boots for one more season to help out his old mate the manager of The Mighty Saints.......a pre-season friendly against Manchester United Under 8 Reserves billed as a Manchester United XI at £20........thousands of Saints fans thirsting for news......"Richard Goddard signs and commits his future to The Saints".......forecasts that we are looking for a top 5 finish....a cup run this time out.....14 seconds from Wembley......top 6 by Christmas, Champions by Easter.....projected 4 figure gates for our assault on the title.......

 

The excitement Wilf. The thrill of the build-up of anticipation for the campaign to come, Wilf. Pulsating stuff. And what have we got now? I'm bored already.

 

I'm beginning to think that Lord Lippiatt may have lost the plot.
