Don't Believe The Truth

Recommended Posts

Got this yesterday, listened to it twice, and I have to say that I'm so far disappointed. What's happened to the balls, the rawk'n'roll element? They are turning into a AOR band!! The next time they start writing songs they should ban acoustic guitars. Funny enough my favourite track, so far, is "Guess God Thinks I’m Abel". Is the album a grower?

Nowt wrong with acoustic guitars, but I was hoping for more of a rockin' direction from Oasis this time - full on and up tempo (not sure why, probably an interview I read somewhere). On the whole, IMO, DBTT just feels a little flat to me - maybe it's the production? I can't put my finger on it.

I think the problem is that everyone expects such high standards from Oasis. It's a fine album. Were it by anyone else, it would get at least four stars in any of the music mags.

It's on a par with Heathen Chemistry for me. Any of the tracks could be on either of the albums.

Noel reckons it's their third best album after the first two. I tend to agree.

I think DBTT is far superior to Heathen Chemistry and SOTSOG. There are some great songs on those two albums but I found on both those albums I was skipping tracks. I'm not on DBTT and find I'm listening to the album as a whole.

The two weakest tracks (in my opinion, Mucky Fingers and Guess God Thinks I'm Abel) are much better than many of the weaker tracks on the last 3 albums.

The problem is Oasis were criticised for being too bombastic and the over production on Be Here Now. They've gone back to basics and have adopted a more mellower sound.

I personally prefer Oasis at their loud best (that's why I'm a fan of Be Here Now) but DBTT is a very good album and it will grow on you.

There's no way you can compare it to the first two albums, both are masterpieces but this as a stand alone album is very good and many bands would kill to do an album of this quality.
