YOUTH FOOTBALL GONE MAD

Recommended Posts

In an article about mini soccer it is reported by the Essex FA the mini soccer has gone crazy, by THE PARENTS. going crazy on the touchline, referees are called every nme under the sun and what started out as a friendly game has ended up a cup final at the Millennium Stadium of life and death proporation

WHY IS THIS

Zody this is a good point, one which I have some passions about.

My son plays for Rayleigh Cricket Team, some of his mates who also played last year have had to make a choice between football and cricket because of all these mini tournaments every weekend during the summer. When they are not having tournaments they are training for the tournaments.

The cricket team has lost useful players, and the kids have lost the chance to play both sports because they need to keep playing soccer in the summer to make sure they are in the squad for the winter.

The FA should step in and force a summer break. It is really overkill. I think some of the blame lies with these little Chav type twats who call themselves coaches and are on some sort of ego trip using the kids as their toys.

Football for the winter , cricket for the summer!

Unfortunately it has always been the same with youth football, even when they played 11 a-side from the beginning. The kids are, in the main, fine, the parents are the problem. For that reason, after I did the referee course in the early 90's, I wouldn't do youth games, but went straight into the growed-ups. I got stuck with one County Youth game (you have to do county cup games), U16's I think it was. Didn't like it, parents and coaches that think they know the laws (but don't) and seem to think they have a better view from 100 yards away than I do from 10 (they don't). OK that it the definition of a football supporter but it seems more shrill and nasty from kid's parents.

I have to say it's not all that bad however, the Invisible Firstborn played from the age of 8 in a generally very friendly league.

As A Youth Referee Myself I Agree With TIM, It's Not The Kids It's The Parents.

A Male Parent Has Walked Onto The Pitch And Threatened To Hit Me And A Kid, I Of Course Reported This To The Essex F.A And He Got A £50 Fine, Personally I Feel The Fine Should Of Been Greater.

Totally agree fellah. Did a ref's course in the early 80s and soon as I passed they tried to throw me into some kids league. Having witnessed the parents at games various in the locale, I said sod that for a game of soldiers.

As an ex-Sunday league manager I must have turned down many an invite to run kid's teams.

Anyway I hate other people's kids. I must have been Herod in a previous life!
