Looks like his career is over after he broke his leg in the FA Trophy final:

"Hucknall Town's Dean Barrick has admitted his playing days look to be over after he broke his leg in three places in the club's heartbreak FA Trophy final defeat by Grays.

The player-manager was due to undergo surgery at Birmingham's City Hospital today.

"I'm all right and I'm really proud of my team," said Barrick, after Hucknall lost in a sudden-death penalty shoot-out at Villa Park.

“We took Grays further than anyone else in the FA Trophy this season and I've been told we made them work for it, so I'm delighted."

Barrick clearly remembers the moment in the first half which looks likely to have ended his career.

"I just saw the ball and I was favourite to win it. I got there before he did and he just caught me.

I'm 35 and I'm just pleased it has happened to me at the end of my career and not when I was 19. I was going to play again next season but this will take a lot of recovering from. I've broken my tibia and it's quite a clean break but the break in my fibula is worse. I've broken it in two places.

I knew straight away I had broken my leg. The bone didn't break through my sock but I could see it sticking out. They will operate on it today. It will be a lengthy operation. Then I will just take things one day at a time. The one consolation is that I am still manager and I am excited about next season.

I've been very well looked after but it's going to be a lengthy process. I'm probably going to be in hospital all week."

Barrick will also have to take time out from his school teaching job. "I'm supposed to be teaching today but it looks like I will be off work for a while.

"At first they thought the leg might take about four months to heal but, after they saw the state of the fibula, they think it will probably take longer than that. I've seen the x-rays and the fibula is way out of line."

Barrick added: "I've shed a few tears but I've managed to get my head around what has happened. I'm just so pleased with my team. Roy (Hunter) told me they were magnificent - and he also told me about the free-kick he had at the end which nearly won it. Russell Cooke has said sorry for his penalty miss but there was no need for him to apologise, I just told him not to be daft. If my career has finished, at least it finished in front of 4,000 Hucknall fans and with a great performance by the team.

It was the highlight of my career and will be a great way to finish."

He must be feeling really low. It's not the greatest way to end your career, even if he says otherwise.
