Pre season games

As yet with only two friendlies announced I thought I'd go onto the non league site to see how other teams pre season preparations are going.

 

The minimum was two but there were some who have been very pro-active:

 

Staines 9 incl. Reading, Brentford, L. Orient, Yeovil, Yeading

 

W & H 6 incl. Millwall, Woking

 

Hendon 6 incl. Chesham, Yeading

 

Wimbledon 5 Crawley, Bognor, Dover

 

Braintree 5 Bury, Cambridge

 

Worthing 4

 

Hampton 3 Brentford

 

Bromley 4

 

E. Thurrock 4

 

I'm eagerly awaiting news of more and hopefully exciting friendlies!!!! well if Staines can.

Don't forget though, that all of the above have their own ground and can arrange games with definite dates.

Matt is right , not having your own ground and waiting to see when Windsor are playing there friendlies (knowing when the pitch will be ready)and fitting in dates..can be so so difficult and we need to be patient...

 

Even when I run the supporters side many many years ago , it was difficult just to arrange one match a week - god knows what it is like to sort out a semi pro side and Slough with all its additional problems - would see friendlies not the most important thing to sort out at this time...

What about away games?

Well we have two so far - we didn't go nuts arranging loads of friendlies last season and I'm confident that more will be arranged in time. And I'm happy playing local sides instead of having 'glamour' games, which take a lot more arranging, if that's what works for Eddie and the team in order to get them sufficiently prepared.

Didn't they play one or two behind closed doors last season. Anyway having two arranged at this time is a vast improvement on previous seasons when we haven't even had a pre-season.

The other benefit of playing non-league sides is that it is invariably better preparation than getting spanked by a glamour team where you can't really learn anything about triallists or squad players.

Quite true Gary but it is also nice to play at least one glamour game if only to get a bit of money into the club.

It doesn't get much more glamourous than going to Uxbridge!

It seems strange that we cant seem to organise a friendly with our landlords- they are always nice relaxed friendly games! I would also like to see us take on maidenhead as they are lucky enough to avoid being down with us this year!

You do tend not to play teams from your own division in friendly matches.

Gary is correct, you dont have friendlies with teams in your own league.

Possibly because it ha only been a few days since they found out they were not going to be in our league. Hopefully the clubsa are talking now.
