Uxbridge 0-1 Slough

A deserved victrory, but we did not play anywhere near our best.

Goal came midway through the second half when Sammy Winston beat the Uxbridge goalkeeper to the ball and slotted the ball into the empty net.

Should have scored in the first half as we had loads of possetion and a few decent chances. Winston saw a penalty kick saved and Steve Daly and Winston again were denied by the Uxbridge goalkeeper with two good saves.

In the second half before we scored they also had a penalty (Barras handball although it looked a bit harsh, but I was behind the Slough goal). They ballooned it over the bar.

We scored then they had a man sent off for two yellow cards.

Sammy and Alvin Bubb had good chances to wrap the game on, but despite a few nervous moments we held on.

Thought Steve Daly and Dean Palmer were the two best players on the pitch tonight. Steve has been excellent after an indifferent season last term and although I was not sure about Palmer at first his workrate and commitment is outstanding and he seems to be getting better every match.

Byron Bubb played 90 minutes and looked very nervous first half and did not play well, but second half he settled down and did a lot better. Alvin came on for Steve Hale after half-time and showed a few decent touches. He even looks faster than Sammy!

Match report from Gary to follow I believe.

Yep good result but not the best we have played this season. There is one common trait from our victories so far, they all should and could have been more comfortable. We got caught against Hornchurch and we do need to take more of our chances. But I should not criticise we are top of the league, at least for tonight!!! The Bubbs did ok and what with Ant, Wilko, CJ and Spencer to return this reduced budget squad seems to be shaping up very nicely. Come on you rebels!!

Thought we missed Ryan on the right a bit tonight as he is playing for the British Universities in Barcelona I believe. Hopefully be back for the big match on Tuesday against Harlow.

Great to see CJ and Anthony Howard training before the match. I'd have CJ on the bench to replace Gilkes when he gets knackered. I would have Anthony in the side every time though, but I am struggling to think who for?

Did not see Wilko out there training though? Was he there, if so that's good!

"A deserved victory, but we didn't play anywhere near our best" is spot on. We didn't seem to be as hungry for it tonight compared with recent games --not enough running off the ball. Our corner taking left something to be desired too. But with 4 league victories in a row, there is much to be pleased about. Here's to a good crowd and another 3 points on tuesday.

Top of the league!

I thought we played well, but with the amount of posession we had and the extra man, we should have won comfortably, but hey i shouldn't complain, a win is a win is it not?

Surprised by the crowd, the Ryman League site say there was 366 there, i didn't think it was that much, but if it was then there must have been about 250 Slough there, a very good turnout.

Looking forward to the Harlow game, hope we get 400+ and another win!

Also did anyone else notice the many police cars/vans and 100's of kids scattered on the roads outside the ground, causing much traffic? wondering what that was all about...

Did anyone see the Uxbridge Manager shoving a Slough fan at the gate as he went off the pitch, not very sporting. We spoke to the steward that was there but he seemed disinterested.

The bikes on the roundabout are there every Friday night, the majority the first Friday in the month, they race on the by-pass and around the roundabout.

Anyway, things are looking up this season.....at last!

Deserved the win against a poor Uxbridge side, didn't play too well tho' should of scored more.Sammy took his goal well, not too sure about the penalty though but at least he got his on target.Metcalfe and Hakki bossed the centre of midfield,Dean Palmer had a good game alongside Daly ,tackled well and got forward aswell.Aron Bubb impressed me when he came on,who would win a race between him and Sammy?Byron Bubb looked a bit weak in the 1st half, but had some nice touches in the 2nd,overall my man of the match was Metcalfe. We are top of the league for tonight, hopefully after tomorrows games aswell.C'MON YOU REBELS.

Looking at the above posts , there are 3 of us who do the marks and reports for Mats' Swedish site and we gave quite a few high marks and looking at the above messages it made me think as all of you said that we didn't play as well as we can/could . On reflection I think there were some good individual performances and that could be the reason why we found it hard to break down a team that we really should have well beaten by half time . It was great to see Metcalfe back , showed we missed him last Saturday . Hakki battled as hard as ever and I think Daly had to be alert all nite . I was really impressed with Alvin Bubb who caused problems in the 2nd half . Dean Palmer had his best game and Barras also back to his best . We did play some nice footie at times , but the final 3rd let us down Going forward we looked dangerous , but that's as far as it got .

At the end of the day , if we are all turning round and saying we didn't play that well and we still win then hurrahh!! What will we do when we do play well ?? Lets hope we can keep this up thru' the winter like we tend not to !!

UP THE REBELS !!!

I thought Alvin Bubb (the striker) did look lively. Not sure I would play him and Sammy together from the start though as they did not win enough in the air.

Byron Bubb (the midfielder) struggled a bit, but did get better and Hendon fans do rate him.

I'm glad about the signings, but what worries me is the lack of height in the side. Only Daly and Ant Howard are the only decent ones in the air. With them and Dean Palmer and Ryan Spencer everyone else looks under 6 foot! Daly is relied upon to win too much in the air at both ends.

I liked the look of both Bubbs, both quick and skilfull. Surely lack of height in the side means that we don't play the ball in the air so much? We need to stretch the 20-30 minutes where we do play the ball around well into 60-70 minutes, because last night our performance dropped off badly after 20-25 minutes until their penalty miss and our goal.

All in all though I'll take what we have. It's the best we've seen for 5 years (e.g. post Conference).

The one thing which made me chuckle at the end was all their aerial bombs which they were dropping were all in Daly's 'area' and not many people beat him in the air. If they do, he makes sure they don't get their desired contact on it.

Thought Deano was superb down the right, Anthony Howard watch out???

Will be happy to see Adrian Blake in goal - he's looked good in the two games I've seen him in (reserves against Yeading and the friendly at Tring) and the most important difference between him and Zepherin has been the communication which will help the defence no end. That and the obvious facts of no rushes of blood and rushing out!

Thought Alvin looked lively and will be a good second half sub to replace either Hale or Winston and Byron looked a lot more comfortable when Alvin came on. Byron roasted their full back with the same trick about four or five times in the second half and I think Alvin used the same trick a few times with success in the middle.

Great playing surface though which suited our style of football and while Uxbridge at times played it neatly, our pressure often made them resort to long balls which Palmer, Browne and Daly gobbled up with ease.

Three points and a poor 'ish' performance. Let it continue! Someone is going to get a hiding soon, but Harlow will be our toughest test yet as they've spent a fair bit of money in the close season with acquisitions like Ryan Kirby from Aldershot and will be a tough team to beat. Will be a good indication to how good our team is though.
