Signings.....but not us

I've just read on the non-league forum that AFC Wimbledon have signed 3 players. From QPR, Lewes and Walton & Hersham.

Looks like Wimbledon are doing there usual, signing the right players to win the division.

Windsor have signed one from Basingstoke and Hampton have signed Lawrence Yaku from M'Head.

Looks like it's going to be tougher than last year!

Back to communication again - all we have had is news about players leaving - nothing about the things that matter - do we have a budget for next season, do we have the rent money, can we afford to add any to the squad?

Wakey Wakey, Top Management team, fans are customers as well - you can't just rely on blind loyalty if you want to keep the gates up - we need to hear something positive and soon. The clock is ticking.....

Andrew it is very early days in the closed season. We are not the only team releasing players so there is plenty of time to bring in new players. We have already announced two friendlies which is shockingly well prepared for us. I think to a certain extent you are looking for problems that may not be there. Deaner has told Roy he is behind us for next season at least. A summer without a crisis is unusual but who knows maybe...fingers crossed.

Appreciate the comment, Martin, it IS early days and things can happen, but even you used the words "problem that MAY not be there".

My concern, as always, as the total absence of any re-assurance from the club at this early stage, other than some obscure comments which may or may not be positive, is that if there IS a problem, the amount of notice we may well get is likely to be too short to do anything.

Somebody said that if the season ticket holders all donated £250, we could fix many problems, I pointed out that the rent is equal to £62.50 for each of 400 fans. The chances of collecting anything like that with only a week or less to go is minimal. So it really would be helpful if somebody from the club just gave us a very simple message - "We're onto it and there is no need for the fans to worry."

I don't think that is too much to ask - and I know Roy reads this forum or its contents are communicated to him. Give us a break!

In the mean time, Ian is right, along with you and the other Trust Board members. We must get behind the Trust andmake sure it has enough cash to be able to play a role in ensuring the club survives.

Sorry to keep banging on about this, but time really is short, and I cannot see the urgency that this really deserves.

The £62.50 is assuming the club and the Trust have nothing in the coffers, the sum of which of course is what we don't know.

Because of the seamingly lack of concern from certain quarters I think we're going to have to put a lid on the matter and assume that the club/trust are pretty damn sure that come August and the money is not forthcoming there is enough money in the pot to pay the rent or at least go a long way to paying it.

On their head be it!

In the meantime supporting the Trust as much as we can is the best way forward.

The Trust is the best way forward at this stage. It's a single entity to which we can all channel our efforts and, more importantly, our contributions.

Even if you conservatively estimate that the wages are £100k per year, the rent represents only a fifth of what Martyn is currently putting in so we need to raise significant sums to ensure this club survives past the next twelve months or so.

As Andrew says, it's no use trying to do something about it when we've two weeks left. We need to do it NOW.

Don't get me wrong - all I am trying to say is that at the moment we are not aware of any specific crisis.

When Mr Simpson started releasing ultimatums to the press - which contradict what he had earlier told the Slough Town supporters directly - the Trust responded by saying we would endeavour to raise as much money as possible. There have since been two significant events which did pretty well. But we are now in the close season which is hardly the best time to be raising money from football supporters. However, everyone who joined the trust had the opportunity to set up a direct debt to build the trust funds. How many people actually took up that option?

I think it is wrong to suggest that the Trust have stuck their head in the sand but there is only so much that can be done. The trust does not own the club. We can only give support. Sadly we can't go round every month and forcibly take twenty quid from every member.

The communication from the club is getting better. The programme is informative and Eddie has released articles to our website on several occasions this season. Roy has clearly taken the view that club business should remain private. That is his choice and clearly some people think it is the wrong one. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally don't think we should be speculating unnecessarily. However, for as long as we remain a club without our own home we are a club in crisis and therefore should support the trust (and not just financially).

I hope to see a large turnout for the forthcoming AGM and would like to see more members put their name forward for election to the board.
