I had no idea how much that would hurt.

I’ve just finished watching the trophy final as I thought it would be good to see those ex-Hornchurch lads on the TV and all that.

What I didn’t bank on was the immense jealousy that began to run through me from the moment I sat in front of the TV. I wasn’t sure if I wanted them to win or lose.

Yes they were, for a brief moment, our biggest rivals, but they are also our close neighbours and now, thanks only to us, they had five (maybe I’m wrong) ex H.F.C. lads out there.

As most of you know I am a Man United fan but a supporter of Hornchurch so I guess I should not be too surprised that I felt much more emotion watching Grays win the trophy than I did watching United have the rug pulled from under their Ralph Lauren socks yesterday!

A million what if’s have been in my head since November and I am in no way pointing any fingers here, but all of those memories came flooding back this afternoon, and seeing those people we were cheering on only six months ago lifting their second trophy, in only a matter of weeks, was extremely disheartening after what we have endured.

I’m not quite sure what point I’m trying to make here and maybe it’s a little too emotional to explain, but as I said earlier, I’m not having a pop at any H.F.C. (or AFCH) people, I’m just a tired fan who longs for “just” football.

As for Grays, I guess our congratulations must be sent to all of you (except that @rsehole in the number twelve shirt) for what must be the most amazing 6 months of non-league football I have ever witnessed.

Well done Westy, you and all the rest of the East and River sides are complete Diamonds

The Award of the Presidents Trophy was down to your undying support for HFC and continued backing when the stakes were against us.

A Big Thanks once again and my sentiments were the same as yours when watching the FAT Final.

I felt the same westie but what goes around comes around...it wasn't our time and circumstances in our life and subsequently the financing and running of the club were against us....

its not a time for 'what' 'ifs' 'maybes' (and I know you didn't mean that) but a time for going forward.....we are in the ESL...lets come to terms with it and enjoy it...

let us be magnanimous in our failure to achieve what we wanted and congratulate Grays in their success....it was their season and we can't change that

but lets not forget our own successes....and there are plenty to think about...

and now we are back to our roots without the albatross around our necks of 30 grand a week...Grays have to live with that now....

we don't... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I could not agree more with this sentiment.

You know me, I was not trying to have a dig, I was merely showing some emotion.

Blimey, my Mrs would be proud of that!!!!

as I said J...I knew you were not having a dig...I felt exactly the same way but we must not ask why them....

we must ask what about us.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

our time will come for sure....

we're made that way... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It hurt big time and I'm a Canvey fan. They did what we couldn't do and achieved the non league double. That and the fact a potential 60 quid went down the toilet with Ashley Bayes' penalty save!!

Bayso is still a legend around our way.

I'd have loved to have seen him celebrating like that for the Urchins.

One day I know I will witness something similar, probably when I'm watching Racing Club Hornchurch playing in their 40,000 seater staduim that has a small standing section for those who still hold a 2004/5 season ticket!!!!

Football lets me dream, the rest of life is far too harsh!!!
