WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE GOT RELEGATED?

Not that it is likely to happen, but where (if anywhere) does the team who finish bottom go? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/chat.gif" alt="" />

In the ESL nowhere unless your facilities were deemed not to be up to standard.

You just get re-elected for the next season at the AGM as far as I am aware.

Don't think there's any relegation. Few clubs come up from the Essex Intermediate as their facilities are not up to ESL standards.

There would be no relegation. As the ESL are constantly looking to expand it number of teams rather than relegate anyone. No intermediate clubs have shown any interest in going into the senior league in recent years. If by chance one or two did come up next season they would just be incorperated into the clubs already there.

Not much ambition down in the EIL then is there?!!

Which when compared with the ambition at HX really does make a mockery of the fact that we are only one level above them...

As a rough guide, there are few teams in the Essex Intermediate League who can meet the strict ground gradings for the ESL - there are however several teams in the EIFL whose playing standards are a good bit higher than many of the ESL teams.

The best ground in the Intermediate League is White Ensign, (it's near to the Tesco roundabout at Southend, and is one of the few that have floodlights), though several other clubs have reasonable grounds and facilities - examples are Notley, Manford Way, Frenford, Takeley,BS Swifts (and yes I know they are not in Essex).

And yes, clubs have been relegated / removed from the ESL - examples are Bury Academy (who folded after just eight matches - and yes, I know it's not in Essex), Coggeshall, Stambridge, Woodford, St. Osyth.

It's difficult to understand at times the ESL logic as they allow clubs who have no suitable ground of their own to enter the league, yet deny other clubs the chance of moving up with their ground regs.

Didn't Brightlingsea used to be in the ESL?

Rayleigh are in the Essex Intermediate league and their ground is little more than a park pitch!!!

They moved up a division into the Eastern Counties League (much higher standard, better grounds, better everything in fact)

Two Rayleighs - Town and Athletic - nice neat pitch, roped off, nice clubhouse. Town had one of the highest EIFL gates a couple of seasons ago - about 250 for the final match of the season.

Must be Rayleigh Athletic I'm thinking of. I only really started getting into watching Canvey the year after they left the ESL but reading some programme columns talking about our days in the ESL and in our final year in that division we were getting 300/400 for some games.

Would be good if you could get 500/600 most weeks.

if you wanted to finish bottom then you would have a very tough job trying to get that position of Hullbridge who seem to make it their own.

Nice people though.
