Reflecting on Hornchurch

Recommended Posts

I really don't know how to feel, or how I should feel about this.

For many a year little old Hornchurch with there 50 odd mainly OAP supporters plodded along in the lower regions of the Isthmian. They had all the problems of any club struggling to make ends meet and struggling to get their landlords to look after them properly. At one time they even considered a down grade to the ESL.They were everyone in local NL football's Leyton Orient.

Then an unexpected promotion led to a fairygodmother turning up and they were in the big time. The 50 odd faithfull knew their place and took a back seat while a new wave of supporter was produced and infussed with Urchin passion.

We all know what happened next. So now we have a club (that is technically a different club)playing below the lower regions of the Isthmian, probably no longer followed by many of them 50 loyal fans and still under the control of those who took them on this incredible journey. If you every read the book on that Italian club Castell de Sangrio (or something like that) parrallels could be drawn.

What now for Urchins, will those who were infussed with the passion now be defussed?

Was it fair for the FA to demote them this far, consider AFC Telford, and Aldershot? Have the FA been consistent?

Who knows?

So as I said at the beginning, it is difficult to know how to feel. However onwards and upwards and good luck to Urchins for the future and I will enjoy the new found local derby.

It is a bit hard not to disagree with those sentiments. Just when we thought we were back to being the biggest fish in the pond, when suddenly we get not only Tilbury with their faithful fifty odd but the Gherkins with a recently-discovered 500+.

As for consistency re new(?) clubs that will forever be inconsistent. As you said look at HX, Telford and Aldershot Town.

I think the only reason HX are in the ESL is because of the [****!!****]-up with the promoted clubs causing an imbalance to the constitution at levels 3 & 4. And as somebody else said, why were AFC Telford allowed in the FA Cup and Trophy when they were a new club?

But hey, look on the bright side, money for the club when we host them in the league and no doubt if the League Cup is run on the same basis as last season, then their close proximity would almost guarantee their participation in our group, then more money!

If all goes well then a home match with HX could bring in enough cash to pay our ground rental for a season, and that is nothing to be sniffed at.

I would hazard a guess that if most of their recently-found support continues, then a bank holiday fixture at home against HX (are you watching fix sec?) could see an attendance of quite surprising proportions.

biggest fish in the pond? So what gives you that criteria? having your head up your [****!!****] like the unmentionables or "oh we have more fans than you" Or could it be the simple reason...that you are a well run club who do things properly and correct and show humility in victory and are gracious in defeat? God forbid these qualitys ever show their face again in the ESL..........
