Boylan and Minton on the way........

Funny how almost all the crap, rubbish, insults and offensive posts seem to come from unregistered posters. Problem is, there is always someone who rises to the bait, makes a reply (which is what they want) and we find the level of debate on this otherwise superb discusssion board sinks down to gutter level.

Somewhere else on this board there is a poll asking if we should ban anon for a month. I would go further and ask Ian to put this board back onto a registered only basis. I realise that the occasional message from fans of clubs we probably only see once in a lifetime would be lost, but that, IMO, would be a small price to pay.

I agree 100% with you Merv. Also, in addition to what you say, it always seems to be the unregistered posters who "know" everything before the true fan, e.g Boylan and Minton going etc...

Sometimes there are so many "anons" posting and replying to "anons" that it's hard to follow the thread of the conversation. Who is in fact answering whom?

Let's keep our forum to true fans, be it ours or opposing fans, who are prepared to discuss matters in a sensible way.

In saying this I am not expecting everybody to agree with every comment, especially pro Canvey comments, but that surely is the basis for good healthy exchange of views, not just banal rubbish that "anon 1,2 and 3 et al" seem to want to inflict on us.

sure banning anonymous posts will stop some 12 years posting b*llocks, but it will also stop the people who only post occasionally and cant be bothered with the hassle of registering, the people who aren't very computer literate and find the whole system confusing, the one off people from other clubs who come on to do the odd post and most importantly the people who might want to talk about things without their identity being known. I personally do not understand the problem with anonymous posts, how can a bunch of kids acting hard cause such problems. banning them will stop some of the abuse but if it stops one person placing a sensible post then everyone will lose out.

censorship is ALWAYS a bad thing.

Ian at least for a while, have you seen some of the terrible stuff aimed at chalky and others.

A couple of weeks and I should think they may go away, bored.

Ken I am totally against censorship except where it is offensive, racist, threatening or pornographic (perhaps not pornographic).

Some of the stuff on here lately has been very threatening and in several posts a person indicates that he knows where somebody lives and is threatening, that person while he is hiding behind anon.

That worries me as a site like this thrives on the odd insult and a bit of friendly banter with a little controversy thrown in. Imagine if something serious happened as a result of a bit of banter on this site, people should be able to find out who was involved.

Obviously a degree of anonimity is part of it for our own protection and adds to the fun.

The argument you put up about excluding people who have something to say does not stand up.

If you visit the post on the ricay section called HORNCHURCH very funny, interesting and controversy all the way not a single anon. All the posters are creative and thoughtful about their posts.look at some of the current posts on the Hornchurch section funny and at times insulting but nearly all up front.

it amazes me that someone comes on this site brags they know where someone lives and everyone gets all worried, the stuff about chalky was kind of brought on by himself by being mouthy, he's a womford boy he cant help it. some small nerds come on all threatening and everyone gets concerned. this is the problem with todays age, some kid acts hard and everyone backs away. well f*ck them. why on earth should normal people suffer because a few kids have a limited mentality.

and as far as as the hornchurch posts go you are correct it is a good thread, but what is one person had a real pearl of wisdom to put on it (slim chance on a ricky forum i know) and they couldn't, everyone would miss out.

what is more depressing is that we are giving them more attention by rising to their comments. if it will make you feel better maybe we should find out where they live and kick the granny out of them.

the problem with freedom of speech is you have to put up with a whole load of crap you don't want to hear

When the level of discussion on this board drops to gutter level, it brings the whole club into disrepute. There was always an argument between officials of the club and myself/Ian over the old website but that was almost always based on the content of the discussion board and rarely the site itself. The new offical website does not have a forum and, I am reliably informed, it never will, simply because it is too easy for the club to be tarnished by offensive and insulting threads.

The level of discussion on this forum has, IMO, always been extremely high, except when some anonymous crackpot has started some stupid thread and Canvey fans have responded.

The most consistently insulting contributor on these pages was John Crawshaw, AKA Rotten Johnny Shawcraw. Do a search for his postings if you haven't heard of him. BUT we all knew the postings were from him and we could recognise his banal crap and, as a result, some of the funniest threads for any discussion board anywhere emerged.

Some threads end up having so many postings from 'anon' that it is impossible to follow what is being said by whom.

I recognise that the downside of registered only postings is that we will lose 'one-off' posters but this is not a major problem in my opinion. Once you register on this board you are then registered for dozens of different sections and different clubs.

If MOB's poll goes in favour of banning anon postings, let's ask Ian to set it up. (Give him something to do, he is getting fat and lazy).
