Tomorrow is D Day - I am sincerely hoping it will NOT be the Essex Senior or the Isthmian Div 2 (if the latter still exists).

 

There are 23 teams listed in both the SL and the IL - ie there appears to be one vacant place in each league. In case anyone is interested the teams in the Isthmian Div 1 are

If you go in the Ryman you have two trips to the New Forest to look forward to plus a trip to the Isle of Wight and a couple of seaside outings.

 

If you go into the Southern you have a few Essex derbies to look forward to!!

A minor correction to my initial post - Enfield FC play at Ware (and not Boreham Wood). And of course, Dartford play at Gravesend & Northfleet.

 

I would prefer the Southern League.

 

Re-the earlier comments on Newport IW, it is easily possible to do this one as a day trip - you have to get the boat from Portsmouth - the ground is right in the middle of the island, about twenty minutes by car from Ryde.

 

The set up could well change, as Sittingbourne have asked to be switched into the Isthmian League from the Southern League.

Nearer than Cowes if you go by mileage, cos the boat from Scumland docks at East Cowes and it's a straight road down the island.

No mate there is not one space available in each league!

The FA has decided that no league should have more than 22 teams which has already given the Combined Counties problems for 2005/6.

There are 23 each in the SL E 1 and Rym E 1 because the FA decided that it was too late to have the play offs from level 5 to 4 due to time it took for the appeals made to be heard and so they took the expedient of just adding an extra team for simplicity as an exception.

P.S. Ryman 2 will exist until the end of 2005/6 and will then be disbanded with the non promoted clubs being reallocated to their respectively appropriate geographic level 5 leagues.
