Southern Or Ryman

With the sad demise of Hornchuch this week, could possibly mean a move to the Southern League for us? At present, there is a vacancy now in the Southern League as Maidenhead are no longer to be relegated and Hornchurch are reforming at Ryman/Southern Division 1 level.

Could Northwood be pulled back into the Ryman? If so, it certainly would leave the way for us and Windsor to be shifted across into the Southern, and consequently a large increase in travelling costs for both clubs.

My heart tells me that I would love to go travelling across the country visiting new grounds but my head says we couldn't afford it.

East Thurrock United, Fisher Athletic and Maldon Town OR Kings Lynn, Bath City and Gloucester City....Tough Choice!!!

From a selfish point of view I like the idea of a few trips further afield. It's likely to decrease our away support though which at Ryman level is fantastic and it will also mean additional costs for the club which is not exactly helfpul at this stage.

On that basis, Ryman will be quite ok for now. We can do longer away trips when we get back to the Conference! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I quite fancy the trips in the southern as well but agree that the costs will be a lot more. A trip to Kings Lynn sound great.

You wouldn't say that if you've ever been to Kings Lynn.

£4-5K in extra a season in the southen...and no doubt you'll find it harder to get decent london players as well..could be the death of both clubs at this level

yeah but with you paying £25k a season to us and only living on ticket gates and fundraisers it will even it out slightly...Let's hope we stay in the Ryman for a while...

well, we'll all know tomorrow and if we are moved, I hope we appeal. Personally, all teams that were relegated should stay relegated

Agree. It seems ludicrous that when clubs go under, the authorities choose to reward failure and reprieve 'relegated' teams. Perhaps they should consider an extra promotion spot instead, so, for example, a 'losing' play off finalist got the place. At least this would reward those teams having a successful season rather than those performing poorly. If the rules state that at the end of the season, the bottom three go down, then that's what should happen. The Hornchurch situation highlights the issue; They were already docked 10 points and Maidenhead still could not finish above them. Who do you think deserves a Conference South spot next season, based on this seasons performance, Maidenhead or Billericay?

I should also say that reprieving 'relegated' teams has the effect of diluting quality in any given division as it represents 'survival of the weakest'. In a football pyramid supposedly based on merit, and with reward based on success, this seems a strange paradox.

I thought thanks to your new sponsors you were getting free coach travel? Therefore no extra travel costs. Perhaps you should volunteer for the switch? Admittedly it would be a disaster for either club. It would certainly make midweek matches interesting.

You have obviously never had the misfortune of a trip to Kings Lynn. They are such a bunch of inbreds that they even make Hampton & Ricmond fans seem normal!!

Sorry the sarcasm doesn't seem to work on a computer quite so well.

Taken from the Northwood forum

"....and we remain in the Southern League. Along with Cheshunt. Hornchurch go into the Essex Senior League.

Southern League are believed to have supported the inclusion of Slough and Windsor instead but the rest of the League committee decided otherwise. Draw your own conclusions......."

If correct, its the Ryman league for us then.
