AFC Globalisation

Recommended Posts

Yet another AFC has now joined the ranks. AFC Hornchurch (2005) joined the ranks today. New manager and team expected and it is not sure in what league they will ply their trade next season. Probably Ryman One or Essex Senior.

Beware the creeping AFCs they are taking over the football world!

I think that putting AFC Telford straight into UniBond 1 has set the standard for future cases. However, could by Ryman 1, Southern East or ESL...but the previous two have already got 23 teams in their constitution and with the advent of the FA(?) trying to reduce all leagues to 22 then ESL looks favourite.

It may have something to do with whether the original club has ceased to exist (or will cease to exist). The fact that Enfield FC carried on,meant no other option for ETFC ,than to start from the bottom. The same applied to AFC wimbledon.

It does seem highly unfair that Enfield Town have worked so hard to achieve step 4 status, and then brand new clubs are being offered that status.

Will AFC Hornchurch and AFC Telford play at the old clubs grounds.Or will they defeat the object and groundshare outside the area of their name. (like AFC Wimbldon do).

As I understand it, Hornchurch FC 2005 competing as AFC Hornchurch will continue to play at Bridge Road near Upmister Bridge District Line Station whatever league they join for 2005/6.

Can't see the logic if they restart above level 5 though as they are a completely new club officially.

With Maidenhead keeping their place in Conf South, they'll only be 21 teams in the Southern League. As a result there'll be a knock on effect with one team not getting relegated to the Southern league east/west. This frees up a position that will probably be offered to Hornchurch. They have a suitable ground so it's easier to reinstate them in Ryman one or SLE rather than promote somebody from step 5 who probably hasn't got a suitable ground.

Either that or Tilbury could be reinstated in the Southern League and HX take their place in the Essex Senior League.

Weren't there 23 teams in SL 1 E&W because they ran out of time to do the play offs?

This means that they would just reduce SLE1 to 22 teams as they intended before.

It will interesting to see what happens the day after tomorrow.

I agree entirely. Clubs folding and starting up again as AFC ..... should not be allowed to enter a league a lot higher up than they should. It's the same as a few clubs being relegated and then going into administration, losing 10 points and starting afresh the next season.

You are correct. It is worrying.
