AFC Manchester United......

....could be playing in the North West Counties League next season.

Judging by the latest news, it looks like Malcolm Glazier is just a short corner kick away from owning Manchester United.

Not for sale, sorry you are if you want to play with the big boys this is what happens. You become open to predators such as non-football loving Glazier.

So to slightly paraphrase Alexander the Great...

"When Alex saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer."

This is extremely irritating on the philosophical front.

The money he is investing appears to be borrowed. Which means he is buying on HP and taking the business into debt. A number of American businessmen come over here buying on large amounts of HP go home again much the poorer. Normally their own financial markets get impatient for profits and pull the plug on them. Leaving them to sell the club back to more caring investors for a fraction of the money. Why Buy when the dollar is so weak against the pound? In reality increases the price paid in dollar terms and can be expected to force financial prudence.

Point of order Coup.

I believe that the new club's name would be 'AFC United (Utd)!

Well that was the new club name quoted in the fairly recent report in the NLP which said that the Man Utd Supporters Club had been taking advice from AFC Wimbledon and talking to the NW Counties League in the event of a Glazer takeover.

So there!

But I think you will find if they do go down that east Lancs road, then some kind of town/city name will be required from now on. Cannot see it happening though, as the thought of 10,000+ Reds trying to cram into Cheadle's humble stadium would make inspector knacker apoplectic!

OT

Letter to all Utd fans from amystery takeover.

Dear Soccer fans,

As you all know, i've been looking to buy the United's of Manchester for

a little while now. I've also heard that some of you may not be

too happy about me using, sorry, buying the club in order to reach new heights and

also, that I may not be a fan.

Well fear not, as i'm writing this personal letter to let you know that

i'm a genuine fan of you blue devils.

I began rooting for the United's back in 1992 when our little Malcolm JR

was practising those Soccer home runs out in the yard. I loved the way

you turned defence into offence, and the way that Bobby Shearer used to

top half it into the goal bag. Oh man, that play was hot. My son

tells me that you even out-zoned your City rivals Southampton in the 4th quarter

of the FA World series.

As for your current team, that Rude guy is awesome!!!! I see a

profitable future at the United, with the young talent of Cristiano Rooney (man,

that guy can dance!) and Peter Shilton giving us hope in defeating the

evil Russian tyranny which assaults the freedom of our beloved Soccer.

With the marketing potential of those Neville brothers and that Pearce

dude leading the team, we can all look to acheiving our beliefs of a

better future. Especially when I add Alexei Lalas and Cobi Jones to the

starting 15.

Now to you, the fans.

I've been to see the United's play once before, and the respect you pay

your team in silently admiring the play out on the pitch was

overwhelming. Because of this, i've just purchased a new £45

million

mansion in the Manchester to be close to you guys. And more good news is

i'm planning to add an extra 10,000 seats through corporate boxes

so more genuine blue devils can experience the play.

What's with the prawn sandwiches I had to eat when I was there?

Well, rest assured, it'll be super size prawn baguettes when I take charge.

I can't wait to come over to the Manchester isles, as I love the

country, especially the beaches and the hot chicks.

I hope you can all see my vision of this future, with new shirt sponsors

(Dunkin Donuts) and new team name (The Manchester Gloom) i'm sure things

are looking bright.

*Further good news for you guys is that i've just agreed a partnership

deal with McDonalds, who will help in promoting the Manchester brand.

This will involve re-naming the stadium to 'McTrafford' as well as

an exciting launch of Manchester Gloom plastic fan toys in every

happy meal. Cristiano Rooney will be the face of this campaign and during this, he

will be marketed globally as Roonald McDonald

Then AFC Sardines might be particularly appropriate.

Supposing MU win two trophies next year and this American decides to sell the club - Would he be known as a 'Double Glazer Salesman?'

You worked hard for that one Andy but it was amusing. The two Irishmen who bought a stake in the club for £1 and sold for £3 were probably the double Glazer salesmen of the year.

Can't wait couldn't happen to a nicer club- Glazer and Man utd made for each other.

...but then, start thinking a little further outside the box people !

What happens now ? Well, Manchester United will soon become 100% owned by Mr. Glazer and will be delisted from the Stock Exchange, becoming a private company once more.

So far, so good.

Perhaps Mr. Glazer has squirrelled away a certain amount of money in order to cover the cost of transfers, wages etc. - seeing that he's only actually invested £230M of his own money in the £760M(?) take-over... the Banks have lent him the rest.

Which means that these banks will soon be pestering for their interest and/or capital advances back.

So, Mr. Glazer will be in the position whereby he has to maximise the potential earnings of the club as soon as possible (in which kind of ruthless business practice, he has a superlative record !) - first move will be increases in the prices of merchandise and ticketing... followed soon by a Manchester United Only TV deal - breaking the "cartel" TV agreement belonging to all the Premiership clubs as a whole.

Thus are paid back the monies on the Manchester United mortgage in record time, because there is little doubt that Mr. Glazer will be wanting to hear the sweet kerching, kerching tinkling in his own pockets, rather than the banks !

Fine and dandy, only bothers Man. U. supporters... doesn't it ???

Actually... no, it does not only affect Man. U. supporters/teams at all. Think about it !

Firstly... if the TV rights are going to be broken up amongst all the teams of the Premiership on an individual basis - as is pretty sure to happen once MU have broken ranks, then very few clubs will benefit from this.
Perhaps Chelsea, maybe Arsenal and pretty certainly no one else would be able to guarantee a superior individual TV contract, compared with the Premiership bloc contract presently on the table. After all, how many millions are going to be waved at West Bromwich Albion for the rights to screen their matches next season ? Or Pompey, or Fulham ?

So, all these smaller teams are no longer going to receive the fruits of the TV deals and their spends will drop accordingly... as will the spends of those lower teams from whom players would be purchased...

Then there is the question of Manchester United's own spending. Some £530M which has been taken out as a mortgage needs replacing asap as well as a burgeoning amount of interest. You can bet your bottom dollar that much money which might have been filtering down the leagues from their spending will no longer do so.

There are teams which are going to suffer seriously from the fall out from this deal... they won't necessarily be from Manchester... but suffer they will !

Expect a few to "go to the wall" over all this !

As far as breaking away from the rest of the premier this in theory is not possible. 14 clubs in the premier have to agree to any changes in there constitution. Would Man. Utd on its own be worth the extra bung ? I think not. What about the teams they are playing when there games are televised. You can't play football on your own. He could find himself very isolated. If Man. Utd fans do boycott there sponsers products in a great numbers what then. What can he offer them they haven't already had. This is not a failing American football team. This is England a different kettle of fish entirely. Oh this is going to be such fun

I agree with lightweight.

My team ,Liverpool have a large enough Fan base to support their own TV deal if the "Salford Steelers" manage to break the current agreement or manage to actually change the Premier league constitution so from a selfish point of view I don't care.

Actually Glazer has promised a 20mil transfer Kitty per year well that is the same as the Wigan chairman has offered.

Yes Glazer has to pay his debts first 50 million a year wiped out from your current profits which last time was around 35 mil net. so Man u coul d be running at a loss for the first time in god knows how long.

See how many shirts Man u sell if they are not on Match of the day every week, the other clubs will benefit from youngsters not seeing them - shirt sales etc.

Man utd do not tend to buy many players from the lower leagues so that is a moot point ref. spending.

I have no sympathy for utd as "not for sale" is not actually correct Man Utd sold out in 92 or whenever when the went PLC and anyone can buy them - it's a point of law- they were happy with the 15 million it raised to build the team of the decade in the 90's. Hens - roost, Home, I think there is a proverb in there somewhere.

I think Man utd needs the Premiership more than the Premiership needs them. Anyway most of the disaffected london Man utd "fans" are deserting Mc Trafford and are suddenly filling the bridge up once more.

I think it is sad but I still have no sympathy- Could be worse Michael Kington could have took control back in 89 then where would you be now?

I tend to side with our man from Austria in this case. I think that Man Utd will at some stage be looking east to Europe. With the rest of the G14? clubs, a breakaway European league is on the not to distant horizon methinks.

What is the champions league when you could be playing Real Madrid, Barca, Inter, AC, Ajax, PSV, PSG, Lyon, Porto, Benfica, Bayern Munich, Schalke, Dynamo Kieve, CSKA Moscow, Rangers, Celtic, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Who needs UEFA when you have that kind of financial muscle?

Any threat of sanctions from UEFA or FIFA would be completely defenestrated as the said clubs will [****!!****] a snook at the rest of the World/Europe with that kind of pulling power.

Arsenal v Dynamo Kiev does not have the same cachet as Arsenal v Spurs. Whilst the TV rights would initially be welcome to the clubs people would soon stop watching as the stadiums emptied.

Would Man U ever have a local derby to compare with Man U v Liverpool?

Would they be allowed into the FA cup?
