...that the FA have now decided to promote the nine champions, plus Enfield next season. Hopefully you Townies can now get some sleep at nights and well done - I do mean it, honest and don't forget to come back and see us on here next season and beyond.

But (I always have a but), how are some of the extra clubs going to be accomodated, especially now that the Combined Counties have been told to reduce their top flight league to 22 clubs?

Or have I been a Goldfish yet again and missed something important in the past 24 hours?

I think the FA are hoping it'll all come out in the wash at the end of next season when there will be some more restructuring (bringing in a Midlands league for the season after). I know the National League System is huge and, when you think about it, rather impressive, but you sometimes get the impression nobody really thinks things through!

Every time the FA changes its mind (and this has been going on for a couple of years now) it reminds me of that Round The Horne xmas special where their panto was Cinderella. First of all Kenneth Williams was one of the ugly sisters. Then he complained that the announcer was playing Buttons so he took that role over. Then he complained that he should be Cinderella (because he liked the ball gown) and got that role as well. He was already supposed to be playing Prince Charming. So it ended up with the Prince, in the person of Kenneth Williams, marrying Cinderella, also in the person of Kenneth Williams and living happily, if confusingly, ever after. I sometimes wonder whether RTH was just a documentary in the form of allegory.
