Presuming that we will be back at Harstdown next season what do we want? I would like to see the club employ a commercial manager, even if its only a part time basis. Dave Canham immediately comes to mind if he was willing to consider it. He is likely to have a number of contacts already. It is imperative that we get as many sponsors as we can including Match, Match ball and advertsing boards. I would also hope that if the club are changing the shirts for this season that they get the orders in quickly and have them on sale PRE-SEASON. The Club Shop is still in situ at the ground and so that is an ideal opportunity for making money. Due to the financial situation I don't know whether it would be a job that MISA could take on with money they have raised for the club, just to get thing up and running. I think the club have missed opportunities over the last couple of years with marketing particularly last season with shirts not being available. Another idea would be to remind as many people as we can that the club are back in Margate. I think that we should have a stall in the town centre over a couple of Saturdays where we could promote the club. Even with small giveaways like MFC ballons etc for the kids. It would also be an ideal time to promote the golden gate lottery which would ensure a long term income. Also maybe have a prize draw and sell tickets.

I have contacted MISA about another fundraising event which may prove popular. What does anybody else think, any ideas? With the amount of people on show outside the council offices for the protest there must be the help and support available. Without Football on a Saturday what else is there to do!!!

If Margate FC is back home in time for the season, that would be a good idea. The club needs as much money as it can get in, to get the creditors off the clubs back. If the creditors can be weaned off, the Council is more likely to grant the permission the club requires for the full stadium build. Having a specific role in the club for that would be useful.

Promoting the Golden Gate is a good idea. I know from work that its popular and it brings in money for the club.

Are you actually a supporter, Mr Maskell? Because you have been talking a lot of rot about ifs and buts and receiverships and all that without a shred of evidence that this is at all a possibility, and not only on this website.

Anyone with less faith in human nature might assume that you come on here to sow insecurity and doubt amongst us supporters, but I am sure you are not that machiavellian, are you?

There are many clubs big and small that have taken on a CVA and come out the other end. Why should our club not be one also? The ground has been levelled at Hartsdown, and that would not have happened had there not been a surety that further work would be occurring. Stands are mainly prefabricated these days, and once the groundwork is prepared, they would rise up quicker than you can say large erection. Turf can be laid quite quickly too, some premiership clubs replace theirs twice in a season.

Margateshot has some very good ideas, used to work in field marketing, and it is a very cost-effective and efficient way of promoting a product, so the promotional stall sounds good to me. I also think there is a synergie to be had by working with the shopping centre management at Westwood Cross - we advertise them, they help us, more reasons to visit the area, hubbies can go to football, wives shop etc. (know that is sexist but mostly true) maybe a bus link between the two places.

When we get back to Hartsdown the added revenue from advertising should help considerably, and I am sure that the club have given consideration to the commercial side. I must say I would like to see Dave Canham back too, lovely man.

I am not over-anxious about the lack of news from the club, remember they have a very small staff, and I would expect them all to be extremely busy. I would rather they get on with the important stuff than spend a deal of time massaging our insecurities.

But above all, let's not give in to doubts and anxieties, this happens every summer because we have not got the bonus of seeing the players, officials and staff, or asking any questions. In the end, it is about having faith in what the club has told us, or not. I am not aware of anything they have told me that has not been correct, so you know which side of the fence I am sitting on.

I am a supporter. I just dont follow everybody elses optimism for the club. I think I have more of a realist view about the clubs future.

I have said similar things on other sites thats true. It appears you've seen those messages. I simply think that the club isnt as safe as many here think. The difference between Margate and other sides in football is that Margate is in financial difficulties and building a new football stadium which will have to be paid for. Coupled with this is the fact that when the new football season starts, players wages will need to be paid. Considering last years problems with that it doesnt make me feel much better. The Leagues directors may decide to make things worse for Margate. Margate is a very small team compared to others in similar difficulties.

I am not here to try and cause trouble or do anything machiavellian. Im just putting my view accross which is that there are a lot of problems for Margate FC and Margate is a long way off being safe, despite what the club may say.

I only just joined this forum because I was only recently made aware this site actually existed.

I hope you are right about the speed to which the stadium should be built. I will definitely appear to the first match at Hartsdown to cheer Margate on when the stadium has been finished, at which point I will duly eat my words and take everything back. Im just keeping an open mind.

Oooh Legend, you're beautiful when you're angry!

Don't trash our Mr Maskell too much, he can't help it if he's a pessimist. If he lightened up just a bit he would probably be OK. He just needs to think about when times are bad, whether we need that spelling out, and whether we need someone going around with messages of gloom and doom when it would be more constructive to keep our collective peckers up (figuratively speaking, in my case).

The club has never told us we are safe, all they have done work very hard and take the tough decisions to try to keep us surviving and getting back home again.

The least we can do if we share that dream is continue to support, rather than undermine, them.

First match of the season, jkm, you can come and stand with me and sing happy Margate songs, and say sorry a lot.

Why all this squabbling. This thread was supposed to be a positive view of what we as supporters could do for the club and other peoples views. Anybody reading this will lose interest in the thread after the 4th posting

[color:"blue"] Positive Suggestion ... Cashing in on the success of the End of Season presentation night, how about a pre-season Meet-The-Players session ?

Traditionally we announce the final squad after the last pre-season friendly. If this game were to be on the last Saturday before the season - at Hartsdown - how about an after match Barbecue where we could have a fan & player get-together. Should work well as a 'bonding session' where we can get to know our new team - also raising a few bob for the club selling booze, burgers and hot-dogs. A stall selling t-shirts, the new strip, scarves etc would raise funds too.

Legend, youve made your point and so have I...theres no ned to insult me or try and kick up trouble here. We are all here to talk about Margate FC. Lets not kick off anything...its not worth it.

Margate Fan, I would gladly appear at the first game and cheer on Margate, taking back everything I have said.
