What a difference ...

3 and a bit days makes - went home totally despondent after our second half performance on Saturday, but tonight went home absolutely delighted with the performance and the welcome 3 points.

Everyone played well, but like previous posters, I agree that there should be a joint MoM award to Che and to Paul Wilkerson.

I had thought Che wasnt looking especially sharp this season and was beginning to question whether he should be first choice in the team.

How wrong could I be - that goal from Saturday was obviously just the confidence lift he needed and he was exceptional tonight, with 3 extremely well taken goals and he could easily have had a couple more with a bit of luck.

Wilkerson kept us in the game initially with a wonderful save to prevent a close range own goal which would have made the score 2-0 to Woking and I dont think we would have come back from that. He then made 3 or 4 blinding saves after the penalty award - the one he got up to, to touch over the bar from a rising drive from 25 yards was particularly outstanding as it came through a crowd of players and he can only have seen it late.

We had the right mix tonight between long balls and playing our football on what was an excellent playing surface ( and a decent size too).

The players celebrations at the end told their own story & the togetherness of the team really shone through - we were certainly back to the Times correspondents comment after the Yeovil game of " few sides will match Gravesend for pride and passion this season".

Lets ensure this is a springboard to further success and is not wasted - starting with Nuneaton, who themselves had a surprise win at Dagenham lawst night - so Saturday certainly wont be easy, but if we play as we did tonight, then we should get another decent result.

Incidentally, what a crowd they had tonight - over 2700 - I think they were rather taken aback by it & I suspect many people missed the first goal as they were probably still queing to get in.

A good atmosphere though, especially in the second half when we Fleet supporters, aided by the drum, and by Che's goal's, really found our voices and ensured the singing battle on the terraces was won by Fleet, as well as the game on the pitch !!

And just think, we get results like this without several of our squad being available , especially in defence - what will we achieve if we ever have a full squad again ??

The only downside to tonight was the 4(?) bookings again - we really must cut out bookings for silly things - retaliation, dissent and timewasting as this could have a bad impact on us at later stages of the season.

Still, overall, a great nights entertainment had by all Fleet fans.

Up the Fleet !!

Couldnt be any more happy. What a cracking result and performance by every single player. The atmosphere behind the goal in the second half was awesome, some 100 of us really out sung most of their crowd of 2500, brilliant. I would like to go into who played really well but I really do think that everyone performed brilliantly. Boothy chasing the ball! Che finishing like che does, Rob Owen and lew watts were immense in the air, Macca was quality on the ball, the list goes on.

Man of the match was definitely joint between Che and Wilkerson, what fantastic saves he pulled off. Come on you reds lets get 1800-2000 for the saturday game and really start to make tracks in this league.

I am so glad I rushed home from work to go now. What a performance. I was a bit worried that the were going to slaughter us after the first 10 minutes but we seemed to take a while to wake up. Che showed real poachers instinct and his finsihing was of the highest quality. Wilko was fantastic and pulled off some world class saves. I think Rob Owen may have given Fordy a major selection headache now, as he was also outstanding. Only downside was the Woking fans being such sore losers!

Bateo, you summed up exactly what i thought. I dont think they were sore losers though, i think they were just stunned to beyond belief. Roll on saturday and it really is a long way for them to come just to lose!!

I must retract my earlier statement and replace it with, Some Woking fans seem to have been sore losers. After woking blokes comments and reading some of the posts on the Woking site, it seems that most of the Woking fans felt that we deserved to win. It seemed to be just the small section of fans behind the goal in the second half that were not taking it to well.

I think we can all agree, what a game to watch!!!

Well, Alan, anything could happen on Saturday - Nuneaton have beaten Dagenham away while we lost to them at home, suggesting that we could be in for a tough time.

However, on the other hand we beat Hereford 3-0 at home, a side that Nuneaton lost 3-0 to at home!

To early to predict results with teams 'bedding in' and some teams having played weaker teams with tough games to come and vice versa. December is a good time to see the season unfold when most teams have played each other once. This is why its good to catch teams on the bounce of bad results early on and also why you get Tottenham top of the league?!
