Promotions on hold

Wednesday, 04 May 2005.

Following Appeals lodged by Lymington & New Milton FC and Walton Casuals FC, the process for promotion from Step 5 to Step 4 of the National League System has been put on hold.

The Appeals are to be heard on Tuesday 10 May. Pending the outcome of the Appeals, it may be necessary to alter the format of the play-off matches.

The play-off procedures previously notified has also been placed on hold

Well logically there is unlikely to be any change. These clubs must have had a list of things to have done by the given date, and they didn't, hence the grading failure. Are they saying that the Tings were actually done and the men with clipboards made a mistake, or that the Things don't need to be done (in which case they should have appealed before).

The snag with this argument is of course the use of the word "logically". We are dealing with the FA here....

I hate to be at loggerheads with other champion Step 5 clubs though. They won their league, they should go up. Play-off shenanigamns, if necessary, shoud be between the lowest clubs at Step 4 to see who goes down.

As I asked before, have the Step 4 clubs all passed their ground inspections?

Coudn't agree with you more TIM.

As long as a step 5 league winner has a fenced off ground with one turnstyle, a roped/fenced off pitch. Reasonable changing facilities and a tin shed for at least 50 people they should go through to .

After that from 4 to 3 then the rules should get a little tougher for those who qualify and want to move further up.

After all we're not going to offer our ground for a European or FA cup final are we?

Most of us just want to enjoy our game and cover our operating costs at our chosen level.

They should have just stuck with plan "A". Drawn league v league.

However, they now have 'more important' things to worry about... just who should get the 4th CL place if Liverpool win the thing - at least they have 3 weeks to 'think' about it.

The time for step 5 to 4 promotion was probably too long - they did not do a single thing to their own published timescales.

Just as well I don't do my work projects in a similar way... I would be shown the door!

Don't believe anything until it happens... even after an "official" announcement... they have changed the rules mid season in the past and will most likely do so in the future.

Too many bods on ego trips!

I think I'm right in saying that they reckon the things they failed on weren't notified to them at an earlier inspection or something.

I can live with that. Ryman 2 or promotion it doesn't matter to me. It's the faffing around with fixtures which is annoying. Perhaps the powers that be have it in for us. Maybe some of our players urinated on an FA official's clothes or something after some match sometime, or maybe they were players from another club. Who knows?

Whenever there is an appeal various views and opinions are aired and usually with the FA muddy water is splashed around.

But, when various threads refer to "ground grading lists not being met" the question is simple :-

The FA have issued grading requirements.

Have each Club met those criteria by the given date. Yes - your in, No - your not, subject to winning your league or 2nd for Ryman 2 club.

God knows what mess we will be in if the two clubs win their appeals.

I suspect more appeals by the clubs not going thro'.

Perhaps the 7 clubs who thought they were up should form a prepared joint respose, just in case !

Clear as muddy water!

Or contcact local solicitors to fight their case, just like the big boys in the premiership do.

It cannot be right for 7 teams to be given the nod and then to have it taken away by the FA just because two teams appeal. If they were not ready at the time of the visit by the ground grading teams, then they are not ready. Simple as that. No ifs. buts or maybe's.

Only if there were not enough champion sides who could not go up because they hadn't got their grounds ready in time.

Yep so are 'we' saying that seven leagues did not put anyone forward ? With all the apparent rule changes and being side-tracked with other matters I think I've lost something in the translation (a hazard of being a North Londoner I guess!)
