Off to see Mummsie on Bank Holiday Monday, as you do.

 

The A127 is a dual carriageway from the M25 into Southend. On the Borough boundary, the speed limit reduces to 40 mph and they make a lot of money from a speed camera 200 yards after the sign. There are often queues on the road at this point.

 

3 miles to west is the Rayleigh Weir roundabout/underpass.

 

4 miles to the west of the Rayleigh Weir yesterday, we joined the end of a queue of very slow moving traffic. 10 mph. I couldn't believe that this was the queue to get into town. And I was right. After a couple of hundred yards, there appeared the first of a number of those A4 posters on sticks beside the road advertising "Bikini Car Wash: The Dick Turpin" [a road-side pub 2 miles distant]. The next couple of these posters stated "As advertised in Esquire, GHM and Auto [whatever they are].

 

Crawling along, we approached the pub. Yep, you've guessed it. Cars were being washed by bikini-clad young ladies on the pub forecourt/car park and the hold-up was simply being caused by rubbernecking drivers.

It was about 7.30 in the evening. Sunshine still, but getting chillier. There was no more than a [large] wet patch on the tarmac of the car park to mark the events of the day!
