Essex Senior League Cup Final

Chalky. With a full strengh team on a good footballing surface.Town are superior. As proved by our victory over you last month.3-1 (could have been 7 or 8).Thats not meant to sound arrogant. That shows deficiencies in our game.We are incapable of putting in good performances on bouncy uneven pitches(always have been).Abbey are not.You have showed that even though the pitches were terrible at your place and saturday, your young team can rise above it and not let it effect you game ,in the way it effect ours.If our home pitch had not been transformed this season ,i'm sure we would have ended up third or fourth again.Maybe we are too one-dimentional.Its something that needs to be addressed, because not many pitches (even at step 4 level) will allow flowing football throughout the season.

I'm sure Jim will be looking at 2 or 3 of the Abbey players in the close season,as will other clubs, which is a tribute to what Abbey have achieved in the last two seasons both on the pitch and behind the scenes.Obviously Pinnacle and Wes are the two main candidates.Although neither endeared themselves to the Town fans .Pinnacle for refusing to wave to the crowd (as usual) and Wes for spitting in the crowds direction,as he went off following an injury.

I for one, hope Abbeys team stay together as a unit and progress next season.Only time will tell.

Should be an eventful close season for Town supporters. Many good footballers have indicated their willingness to play for us previously, but they wern't prepared to play at step 5.Now we are in a more reconised league.Watch this space.

Many players have spent all their careers in the Ryman or southern leagues. To be fair, not many have heard of the ESL or half of its teams. They were wary of the standard of the others teams, the standard of the officials, the standard of the grounds.

Being in a more familar league will give ETFC a bigger pool of players in which to choose from.Thats not to belittle the ESL,its just that a lot of players are not familar with it.

Am I right in thinking that in Step 4 suspensions become measured in games rather than days? If so, that is another reason why players might not like Step 5. It's always seemed very unfair to me that players at a higher level get shorter bans.

From the 2004-05 season, the FA has actually come up with suggested lengths for suspensions where it is down to the County FA or some other affiliated association, rather than the FA itself, to administer them. A Premiership player might get a five match ban for "violent head to head butting" or for "spitting or similar unseemly behaviour directed at an opponent or any other person (not a match official)". Even if it is ten games, that is likely to be over in under two months. A player at Step 5 should, if the FA's guidance is followed, get 112 days (four months) for the same offence. And guess which of the two is supposed to be a role model for young fans!

Aren't some of those Premiership prima donnas lucky that they've got ability?

Why do you have to go on and make excuses for Monday? WA were the better side. I don't know where you get your cr*p re Pinn. He just seems to get on with the game without all the aggro some of our players seem to get involved in. Why should he clap our supporters bearing in mind some of the abuse thrown at the abbey players. They didn't play dirty, they didn't play act like they did back in December. Yes, the ref was toilet and from some rumours I have heard that may be an understatement but just give Abbey the credit they deserve. I for one think Pinnacle could be a good acquisition to our squad and believe he would get on well with our supporters. however, he is clearly very loyal to Abbey (like many of their team) so whether he could be tempted or whether Jium wo0uld be interested, who knows.

Happy. Abbey were the better side on saturday.Town were the better side last month when the two sides played.I was trying to put across why i believed the change occurred. You can agree with those conclusions or disagree with them.Neither of our opinions are any more or less valid than the next man's.

Regarding Pinnicle. He seems to interact well with the Town supporters on this forum.I just thought it wouldn't have hurt to acknowlege the crowd with a quick raise of the hand, when 'pinnicle give us a wave' was sung.Especially as his side were 3-1 up at the time.

Lovely stuff, you clearly watch a different game to all of us, you think by playing on a better surface you would have beaten us "i'll do the jokes mate" i am lead to believe that if you ask the rest of the ESL teams they will and i quote "state that we are the best footballing side that they have played this year"

I admit we haven't played football like we can when we play Enfield Town, maybe it's down to nerves by some of the younger players or even the older ones, but on Monday we played the way we had to, and win the game

A sign of a good side is when they can adapt to the conditions and win, play bad and win!!

Not lose and come up with 100+ excuses,

Chalky....When have i said that Abbey are not a good footballing side ? I agree Abbey adapt better to different conditions. You can mix it up in bad conditions, and i've no doubt you can play flowing football on good pitches.(if you can find any in this league).I was basing my opinions entirely on the three games between the clubs.

On the two pitches in poor condition Abbey had the edge.On the pitch with a flat surface, Town had the edge.Something that can't be denied.I based my conclusions on those facts.

Hmmmmmmmmm, putting foot into mouth springs to mind.

By the way, not sure how much Pinn is worth. How about a year's supply of Pampers for the rest of your suad!!!

Only looking for a bite from Pin but got nothing. Thought Abbey looked quite a good side.

They've got a lot of quality in that side, plus they're a very young team, if they can stay fit next season then I think they'll win the league.
