Essex Senior League Cup Final

Enfield Town vs Waltham Abbey

Big question is can Enfield Town beat Waltham Abbey in the Cup Final? Will Abbey get the treble they seek(GBMT, ESL Cup and Millenium Cup)?

We beat them at home but they are the only team to beat us away from home this season and this is sort of away unless you count home dressing room! We know their strengths and weaknesses and they know ours. So as a local derby this one is finely balanced and will be a keen bragging rights encounter. decider 1 win each.

With the town watching to see if we have to play-off the Abbots must fancy their chances because of the distraction.

Come on towners focus and get us that Cup and League double. Let's depart this league as worthy champions.

1-4 to Abbey.

It would be called sour grapes to address the performance of the ref instead of concratulating Abbey. So congrats to Abbey.

The game was videoed, and i think a copy should be sent to the FA regarding Mr Whitton (one stitch up to many).Just to please Abbeyman,i'll say the pitch was bone hard and dusty.Yes, the same for both sides, but Abbey seem to adjust better to sh*t pitches,or at least it seems too affect their game less than ours.

Out line-up was knowhere near as strong as against Burnham.Ndombe started left midfield for god sake.Snowden was forced played all game.No Dave Allen,Adam Gant,Brad Brotherton,Dean Nyman, Matt Negus(first-half).

Dell,where that excuses T-shirt.

PS..IF WE HAVE TO FACE ANOTHER ESL OFFICIAL AGAIN IN OUR LIFETIME,IT WILL BE TO SOON.

Well done Abbey on your Treble of trophies.Well deserved for such a young team.

Let's be honest, there is only one prize the ESL has to offer that Enfield Town really want - PROMOTION - everything else has been won in the past. The league cup was probably about as important to ETFC as the FA Cup was to Chelsea this season. It's never nice to lose a match, but everyone's attention is elsewhere at the moment. To miss out on promotion once again would be an absolute tragedy - losing the league cup final barely registers. That speaks volumes for the achievements of the club over such a short period of time.

That said, very well done Wabbey and good luck next season.

Gonzo you hit the nail on the head. Its promotion we really want. Everything has been done. Jim and the boys can feel really of what they have achieved in such a short space of time. Congratulations to Abbey on their win there is so sour grapes from me. Now all we want is the FA to get their act together.

Mr Whitton ,take a look.

2 defending players must be behind the ball, for the attacking player to be on-side.If the goalkeeper is 40 yards up pitch, that means TWO defenders have to be behind the attacking player.YOU PLANK !

Saying that,i reckon Whitton knew that rule very well.Ignoring it, meant the awarding of a penalty against Enfield Town, the sending off of the Enfield Town Captain, and a goal for the oppostion.Thats not the sort of oppotunity that 'Whitts' is going to pass up lightly,is it.The little wink directed at the Town supporters at the restart, said it all.

First of all, Congratulations Waltham Abbey, a deserved victory, maybe the scoreline was a bit flattering but no complaints, oh other than the 14 rolling round clutching his face like Asa had lumped him when he hadn't actually touched him.

Now as for the referee, well words actually fail me, never have I seen such an diabolical performance, he must have booked about 16 players!!

He never let the game flow, constant whistling, no advantage played at all, he even managed to book Asa Pamplin when he didnt even see what happened.

Ive never seen so many free kicks in a match given for fouls where even players turn round to see what for as no one appeared to have been fouled.

He managed at one point to book an Abbey player & give them a free kick.

If he is the best the ESL have got & he has been promoted god help the level he is going too.

Against Basildon away he managed to find 13 minutes of injury time!

He has no strength of control at all.

Players today recieved treatment but were then not asked to leave the field of play, dont know the exact ruleing but never seen that before.

Sorry but the ref was pathetic & totally inept.

Mr LC would be intrested to know your thoughts.

Well done Abbey you won on the day and that is where it matters. I knew we'd lose as soon as I heard the team sheet. The scoreline was flattering and more a tribute to the officiating.

Town tactics were poor we sat too deep with an old guard defence. But maybe the scoreline would have been worse if on the bone hard surface Abbey had run at our defence on the break. The first half goal was a good one for Abbey and we got one back but Mr Whitton didn't give Russell Penns goal because the linesman din't see that it had crossed the line(2 ft over).

2nd half Lee Smith slotted one in early and Town seemed to want to play second half for at least 10 minutes. We missed Adam Gant at the back desperately his pace and skill. Needed Russell Penn at the back. Abbey got a good second 2 - 1. the third was a penalty and SHOULD NOT have been one so they tell me. Graeme Hall didn't do himself any favour with his verbal red card offence and Mr Whitton was only too pleased to show him the red card. The penalty was well taken and 3 - 1. The fourth came against the 10 men. So if we take it on a good refs score card it was 3 - 2 to Abbey.

Town have got to get away from the idea that we only have to turn up and they will roll over. We are used to having to play a 12 man opposition so we should not have been surprised when a ref awards about 10 decisions to 1 against us.

I still don't understand why the best ref by far in the league was the fourth official.

God bless the Essex League and all who continue to sail in her I'm proud of the ESL but glad to move on (hopefully).

Robert Errington has been a wonderful man who has always tried to look after his league. One man in a million Robert it has been an honour to know such a fine gentleman.

congratulations first must go to "abby" for their win today,i dont think "town" played that well to be totally honest.in all fairness though i hope "abby" fans will agree the ref ONCE AGAIN spoilt what could of been a great game.it may sound like sour grapes after our loss but if the boot was on the other foot (excuse the pun) im sure abby fans would be pretty fed up with that fool in black.im affraid ref you were awfull & i hope someone sends the match tape to the FA & you get sacked for being so incompetent, you didnt have a clue !!!!

anyway as much as id have liked to win today the league was top priority & im happy to say mission accomplished ;o) il settle for that.

good luck to "abby" next season,im sure our paths will cross again in the futre,i just hope we dont get another ref like mr whitton to spoil it for the fans again.

I think what makes the 'ref' situation more worrying is that he had the highest points for all the ESL refs this season (thats why he got the final). So he must capable of decent refereeing.Just not when one of the teams happens to be Enfield Town.Maybe its just a coincidence.Although the smile on his face, said otherwise.
