Testimonal Match

Recommended Posts

It seems along time ago when I used to post the managers reports on here which I enjoyed doing at the time. One of the main reasons I stopped was when the site changed hands to the club and wanted to be in control of all media releases, which was a more professional approach. I have to agree that this was the way to go, but I know a few of you used to like the reports.

Anyway as you are aware I have been granted a Testimonial game on the 10th May to which I am very grateful to the club. I hope as many of you as possible will come to the game and I would love to put a face to some of the fans that contribute on this site in the bar after the game.

I had a love affair with the club and not being the manager anymore has left a big whole in my life, but it was my decision to leave as I felt it was the right decision at the time. I have always preached that you can only get out of something what you put in, and I Know I GAVE IT EVERYTHING I HAD.

I was never the best-paid manager at the level we were playing at whilst I was at the club, but soon fell in love with the club and the people behind the scenes. It went very close to being number one of the most important things in my life and lots of things had to suffer. May be this game will be a way for me to take my family on a holiday for the lack of time I have spent with them over the last Seven and a half years. I would like to think so. That’s my aim anyway. I will be making a contribution from the proceeds of the game to a very worthwhile cause, which I will announce at the game.

The Ryman Championship winning side that has been put together again will be, Jamie Turner, Elliot Martin, Justin Skinner, Nick Burton, Arron Barnett, Gavin Rose, Lee Spiller, Danny Lye, Rob Owen, Jimmy Jackson ,Craig Wilkins, Paul Booth, Che Stadhart and hopefully Liam Hatch. Unfortunately Steve McKimm and Matt Lee are injured and Francis Duku and Darren Smith are out of the country. The opposion will come from the current Gravesend Side with some Ex players added. These are the Lads that have agreed so far, Wilko, Pullen, Gledhill, Porter, Shearer, Moore, Saunders, Essandoh, Pinnock, Protheroe, Drury, Sidibe, Surey, plus Mark Bentley and Jimmy Bullard, depending on their play off situations, with Ben Walsh, Rob Haworth, Steve Perkins and Steve Portway.

Mr Gladwish has kindly helped me with sponsoring the match and will take the kick off. Mark Lindrop has paid a handsome fee for his son Ross to come for the final 10 minutes to score the winning goal.

Thanks for your support over the years, all your comments made some interesting reading.

I hope the club go from strength to strength as I am sure going full time will do.

All the very best to you all,

Andy Ford.

Well, now I know what my highlight of the evening is going to be.

On a serious note, the more I think back to your resignation, Andy, the more it seems like a real shame that the whole thing ended on a slightly acrimonious note after you had spent so many years working miracles at the club. That said, after such long and distinguished service, I knew the thing to do was to respect your decision wholeheartedly.

Best of luck for the future, Andy - I hope to have many more years supporting the Fleet yet, but whatever happens in that time, I know I'll never forget the club's season-on-season improvement and Ryman league success under your stewardship.

Looking forward to the 10th May - in fact, I can't wait.

Cheers Andy. You probably haven't got a clue who I am, but thanks for the devoted service that you gave to the club.

I will be "rounding up" a few mates to bring down to the game Tuesday week with me.

Hope GNFC Boy doesn't disappear into oblivion through the "hollow turf" !!!

Regards,

Although I'm in Watford on a course, this is a game I could not miss. Will be driving down, have a beer afterwards, then drive back.

Thanks Andy for everything you did for the club.

You will not be forgotten.

Hope Tuesday 10th brings a tear to your eye.

You deserve every penny and every cheer you get.

Good luck for the future.

Would have loved to see you get your wish of managing a full time Fleet side, but alas it was not to be.

Good luck and see you on the 10th.

Thanks for the time and effort you devoted to the club. A true legend.

Up the Fleet ..

PS. Hope you don't mind me not wishing you luck in the play offs, it goes against the the grain to wish anything but misfortune on a Westley managed team.

I hope that it is a successful evening for you. Having been a supporter for over 40 years I can honestly say that some of my fondest memories are of games when you were in charge. We wouldn't be where we are now without your leadership. Very best wishes for the future. kmj.

No sooner is Andy working under Westley than he's embroiled in match-fixing! Scandalous!
