Danny Slatter

Recommended Posts

You beat me to it, Jimmy. 1st text I got from a friend at work who supports Welling, during their game yesterday, was "Are you lot after Danny Slatter?"

I know nothing about him first hand, but there is this on the Wing's site:

"7.Danny Slatter

Midfielder/ Forward (Left, Right, Centre) Age 23

The ex-Chelsea reserve captain and Welsh Under-21 international joined last season from Chelmsford and proved himself to be a tenacious midfieider. He spent four years at Stamford Bridge before being released in the 2002-2003 season. Danny can play right across the midfield and has also slotted in at wingback on occasions."

He also appears capable of scoring spectacular goals:

This is him when at Chelmsford:

"Three minutes on, the decision was of no consequence as a stunning solo effort gave the mid-Essex side the lead. Slatter picked up the ball some 45 yards from goal, advanced to the edge of the penalty box and unleashed a low effort towards the bottom right-hand corner, which Aveley custodian Darren Smith could only palm the shot into the unguarded net."

And this more recently:

"The goal finally arrived and it was worth the wait: the ball was transferred to Danny Slatter wide on the left, he cut inside and curled a chip into the far corner with the St. Albans keeper rooted to the spot. Shortly afterwards Slatter tried his luck with a left-foot shot that just missed the far post."

Not all fancy stuff, though. He knows how to take a red too:

"A full-scale 21-man (Charlie Mitten didn't exactly rush to get involved) brawl erupted with fists and feet flying in all directions. After a good minute or two things calmed down and the teams separated into the two halves of the centre circle. The officials had a four-minute mothers' meeting to decide what course of action to take and made an absolute dog's dinner of dealing with the flare up, Rodda issuing just one card, a red to Danny Slatter."

Maybe interested in full time prospects? Maybe just rumours, because Liam was at Welling, Slatter is one of their better players & he was obviously hoping for a full time career a few years back.

All pointless conjecture. Still, better than arguing about the election.

We're in trouble if his contacts are from his previous clubs e.g. Welling, hopefully he's waiting for the League unretained lists before going for players. Bit worried that he's not going to sign the players we need, and that we'll end up on the downward slope like Dover. Would've have thought he would have revealed his unretained list by now. Somehow I don't feel he's going to make the quality signings that Andy Ford did.

Lets just wait and see Robert S, shall we.

Our seasons only just finished and there will be something like 8 weeks or so before the friendlies start.

Slatter sounds fairly decent, but this is only a rumour anyway.

Once the Premiership and Nationwide League seasons finish, there will be opportunities to pick up players from higher levels.

You're quite right in what you say, Alan, but as Slarti has indicated before, going full-time could potentially have its problems with regard to attracting players, in that we're going from being one of the country's best part-time sides to being one of the country's worst full-time sides. Of course, none of us know whether this will transpire or not, so as you say, it's best just to sit tight for the moment.

  • 2 weeks later...

Slatts has talked to Daish but is also attracting interest from Creepy and the Mutants.

Hope he stays at Welling though but he wants full time footy so if you give him the money maybe he will sign. Good Player although gets booked a lot.
