does seem a strange rule that clubs can choose when to lose their points. ... not really sure how to get round it! ... maybe if clubs decide to enter administration in the last month of a season then possibly 5 points are deducted immediately then the other 5 at the beginning of the following season in whatever league they may be in.

I know this seems unfair but think about the following.

(1) I think to deduct points from a club that are having problems off the pitch is not very fair at the best of times.

(2) I would not want Canvey to profit from Cambridges bad luck off the pitch. Imagine if that was us.

(3) This puts the clubs at the mercy of the money men, (dodgy chairman cocks up and costs a club dearly).

I would like a level playing field when we qualify for the play offs next season. Imagine we qualify above Cambridge on goal difference we would not be the better team but the team who did not have points deducted.

I am glad the points deducted from NV did not relegate them.

If we finished fourth from bottom we would always be known as the team who only survived because of another teams bad luck.

I want to stuffem home and away by 3 clear goals knowing that they were given every chance to beat us and did not.

Same thing has happened at Hornchurch as they've entered into a CVA agreement. They've been deducted 10 points at the end of this season rather than start the next season on -10 points.

BTW. According to Hornchurch we're playing them in a pre season friendly at The Lane.

Good thing they made such a good start to the season otherwise they might have finished in the bottom 3 and be in the Ryman League next season.

The reason clubs have points deducted is to prevent them gaining an unfair advantage over other clubs by effectively writing off their non-football debts. Creditors can very rarely recover money as football clubs have few assets except their grounds which are usually restricted use, and no-one likes a business who sends the local club to the wall.

The catalyst for this rule in the UK was the case of Leicester City, who had their stadium built then went into administration costing the builders £6 million. Leicester "amazingly" found a way out of administration and bought some new players. Hardly fair on others who were striving to gain promotion to the Premiership and pay their bills.

THis rule is also supported by the UEFA licencing system which requires any club looking to compete in European competition to have sound finances.

Also, I find it hard to use the words "play-offs" and "fair" in the same post, just look at what happened to Hereford last season.

Play-offs are just a way of reducing the number of dead games that has been caused by the 3 point for a win system.

Also another way to screw more money from the game.

Suppose a lot of it is how hard do you kick someone when they are down? the majority of clubs tend to be those at the base of the football pyramid and its those whom it effects most.

If we were in the same position as Cambridge I'm sure we would do the same. Remember we would like a new ground and, like Northwich, it could happen to us. At the end of the day I feel sorry for the true fans who have been screwed over by money makers again. Also heard a rumour that Kidderminster were in simlar trouble and may take the Cambridge route. Look how many of those ex-league clubs who have dropped have had or have serious financial troubles Chester, Shots (originally), Exeter, Halifax, York etc. You do have to question why they don't go part time to ease their cash burdens - they seem to feel the only way out of this "poxy" league is to stay full time and throw money at it.

Still remember at Exeter it was the fans walking around with buckets trying to raise funds - and its fans, such as those at Telford who pick up the pieces. Is it fair to them?

All credit for Northwich who managed to claw back those 10 points but I'm sure if they had the option they would have taken it as well.

I do take your point about clubs with limited assets taking advantage and screwing others out of their money Yellow Bungle.
