Lost’ friendly worth £10,000 (29.04.05)

 

Maidenhead United’s money-spinning pre-season friendly with Brentford, due to be played on Saturday, July 23, has been cancelled – much to the disappointment of Magpies boss Dennis Greene.

Greene had let keeper Ademole ‘George’ Bankole go to the Bees on the understanding that the London league side would bring a 1st team to York Road on a Saturday afternoon – worth approximately £10,000 to the Magpies.

However, Brentford tried to move the match to a Monday evening, after they had agreed to play Charlton instead on the 23rd, which was less appealing to Greene.

Then, after Greene spoke to Bees boss Martin Allen, the match was cancelled completely.

Greene said of the incident: “I believed a deal had been done, otherwise I wouldn’t have let George go. As far as I’m concerned a deal’s a deal.”

 

No-one from the management team at Brentford was available for comment, although a press officer at the club did say that he personally had never heard of a pre-season friendly with Maidenhead.

Please get my statement correct - waht I said was that we had never heard of Maidenhead United - what league are they playing in?
