Lippy to leave SHOCK

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure about this.

When Kevin Keegan and Gary Megson announced their decisions to leave at the end of the following season, their chairmen rightly took the decision to relieve them of their positions with immediate effect.

Surely we should be looking to build for the future? How can we do this when we know that there's another managerial appointment, and with it another turnover of squad, just 12 months away??

I understand that point of view however I feel that next season will be the very first stages of a re-build for the team and as it appears already CL is bringing in some young players hopefully for the future. I see it more as the laying of foundations and after what was acheived this season I beleive that he deserve the opportunity to do this...and who knows IF it goes really well he might stay on ?

Sorry to drag this up but didn't we have this at the end of last season and everyone just sat back and watched it be destroyed without any objections. Why should this be any different now, and, are these youngsters going to playing for the first team Rob. If not where are they going to play ....... no reserves at all next year I am lead to believe.

Take Karl Kavanagh as an example. Playing with Harpenden Town, St Albans City Youth under 18 and Midweek side during last season, Gives all that up to sit on the bench for 3 months with the first team making one appearance in the Herts Senior Cup. How is that developing any young player for the future.

For f**ks sake...peoples attitude to this still makes my blood boil

I was referring mainly to the news tha a 19 year old defender had been signed from Fulham. I beleive that this is to replace Gary E so again `presume' that the intention is he will play. IMO the reason Kavanagh didn't get many games was that those infront of him were better players. As we were fighting off relegation then we didn't have the `luxury' of using the games as trials for the players such as Karl...IMO anyway.

`who's' attitude are you referring to exactly ? I'd be surprised if there were many younger teams in the league this year even though the players didn't come up from the St.Albans youth ranks.

I'm sure if Carl is good enough, TC, his time will come. Sometimes, you have to wait your turn.

Rob

It seems everyones attitude is "all is well in the garden"..... just because we managed to pull the season around.

That has been a marvelous achievement from all concerned but City have gone from a club that had thriving links with one of the largest youth set ups in the country and a successful reserve side that was producing talented players (I think CL would have been able to spot this better than you know who but I believe its his choice not to have a reserve team next year so maybe I am wrong) to just one team in a year.

There is no "CLUB" anymore and everyone has sat by and let this happen.

As for Kavanagh (or any youngster) thats the point exactly Rob. Players in front were better and CL thinks he has spotted some potential but how is he supposed to improve if hes not playing ???? 20 / 30 games in a good reserve side any use ???

I think I must have missed the game where rose tinted glasses were given away as standard issue for City fans if no one can see what I have been banging on about for the past 12 months.

I don't know anything about football but your point makes sense to me CT.

Nos. CT can speak for himself, but I suggest that any 18 year old player with potential will be happy to wait for his chance providing he is at least playing some level of competitive football on a regular basis rather than getting splinters in his bottom on the substitutes bench for the season.

The names of the players who haven't been prepared to 'wait their turn' while getting splinters over the past couple of seasons is quite impressive.

Don't worry Nos. I'm sure that its all under control.

It's incredible how fickle the fans of this club are. A few wins under a new manager and, as you say, "everything's rosy in the garden". Okay, so we weren't relegated, but I don't see that we're actually moving forward.

You're right. There is no 'club' anymore. I'm not only referring to matters on the pitch, but off-the-pitch we're a joke. Everything at SACFC is shoddy.

Perhaps you could remind us of them, AFF.

I really can't be bothered any more Nos. These are my final words on the subject.

You have been here long enough to remember the season that the Reserve team had under Kevin, Vince and Clive. That team played on a Saturday, largely. It was the natural step up for the midweek Yoof when they discovered puberty.

At the end of that season, Steve Castle decided that the Reserve side should play in the Capital [midweek] League because it was a better standard of football, a chance for triallists and fringe 1st team players etc. etc. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Quite rightly, he was 'in charge' of football affairs and that's the end of it. In hindsight, the matter might have been handled better as far as the Reserve team management was concerned but that's just my view, and I don't know anything about football.

At the start of last season, the Reserve team players from the season before waited in vain for some level of contact from the club which never came. They left.

Tha assault on the Capital League scheduled for this [last] season didn't err... err.. err... didn't actualy materialise. Some fine prospects were discovered, however, playing in the midweek Yoof side. When Eamsie was struggling to put out a Reserve side midweek - let me re-phrase that- when Eamsie was staring at a blank team-sheet, and phoned the chaps at City Yoof for help. Meija. The other one. Whoever. Whatever.

The decision has been made that the Reserve team will not exist next season. James Brewer, Nick Crowther and Greg Hester will be disappointed as they were hoping for another opportunity to catch the eye of the myriad of scouts from the pro clubs what watch these games.

The midweek Yoof side has also been scrapped for next term. Those who have organised it have had to make arrangements for it to play at London Colney, I believe.

So. We will have a 1st Team.

Now please refer to one or two comments earlier on this thread. We will have to agree to disagree, Nos, concerning the merits of a link with a successful Yoof set-up. And if you are suggesting that the links with St Albans City Youth FC, the midweek Yoof side itself and the successful Reserve set-up from two seasons ago have not produced any players of any level of quality, Nos, we aren't on the same wavelength.

Me? I've joined everyone else. Its wonderful. Move over Nos. I would like to try to put my head in that pile of sand.

I wouldn't think that Lord Lippiatt was involved, either Rob.

It is my understanding that the Reserves team under Kevin, Vince and Clive were self-financing and the mid-week Yoof expenses were paid by St Albans City Youth FC.

Someone else may be able to confirm.

Correct. The club provided the pitch and lights etc but took bar and food profits. All other costs were covered by the said parties. The reserves even made a profit for the club and the youth organised such things as the joint Christmas raffle.

So ..... sorry Rob2 not a decision made for financial reasons.

Keep guessing.
