He is also the one holding a dog wearing a Union Jack coat in his election leaflet. According to FF he is ex-public school and ex-army. This kind of figures really. I have no idea of his interests or position on environmental issues as he has not disclosed these in the literature I have received. Needless to say he will be most unlikely to get my vote. kmj.

Well I don't know, I can't wait until the damn things over. I've given up working on who to vote for so was just going to make my mind up on the day. I have now made my mind up. Although this has only helped me make my mind up in the local elections I already knew who I was going to vote for in the general elections.

A bloke just knocked on my door and gave me a flyer/leaflet thing promoting Chris Pond, saying to re-elect him.

A British National Party candidate has said Asian and black people born in the UK could not call themselves British.

Simon Smith, BNP candidate in Warley, West Mids, said on radio: "A dog born in a stable doesn't make it a horse."

Exactly, which is why any sane person shouldn't vote for them.

 

PS - Britain isn't a race, it's a nationality - used mainly for forms. England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales & the descendants of these countries, along with the descendants of immigrants & those granted citizenship within their own generation, make up the rest of our population.

We have not seen a single candidate where I live. I am not all that surprised though as I live in a very safe Conservative area.

 

My voting history (whilst living at my present address) has been Labour (Conservatives held the seat, Labour won the election). Conservatives (Conservatives held the seat, Labour won the election). Next Thursday god knows but (Conservatives held the seat, and (please God) anyone but Labour won the election otherwise I be booking one way ticket to somewhere else).

Start booking. All the polls are saying the same thing. Unless the turnout is desperately low or Tony Blair is discovered to have been Chemical Ali's secret lover, Labour will be back, possibly with their majority as much as halved, but still back comfortably.

I vote Labour, but I understand your frustration. I felt exactly the same under Thatcher. What I finally realised is that most people end up voting for the party that they think is most likely to give them & their family the best chance of a decent standard of living. I've always been a conviction voter, not an inflation/interest rates type, but most people aren't like this.

When the Tories finally went, they were obviously corrupt & rotten to the core (remember sleaze - Neil Hamilton, Jonathan Aitken?) though led by a decent but ineffectual man. People distrust Tony Blair and his control freaks like Alistair Campbell, but many of them really believe in Gordon Brown & won't take the risk of electing a party led by someone who was a minister in a government that contained obvious crooks.

I read recently that the area in Europe with the smallest number of immigrants is Northern Ireland at about 0.02% of the population. However it was also the most dangerous place for these people to live in with arson attacks, intimidation etc being common almost everyday occurences. In such circumstances you can appreciate why these migrants tend to live close to one another- for protection. Attempts at assimilation into the community have proved just too dangerous. the same also appears to apply to GB as a whole. Just imagine what it must be like for, say, someone of Asian origin trying to settle into a rural area in this country. Add to that being anti hunting with dogs and they wouldn't last 5 minutes!
