Seats behind the Wallace Park End?

From Todays Reporter:

Kilcullen said "We've applied for a grant towards the cost of the work and once we get that, we expect the building to take six weeks.

The plan is to put 500 seats at the front of the stand and install crash barriers behind it for the terracing."

Surely, the old boys on the half-way line are more in need of seats than us youngsters!

Ah, but we walked to school, so we're used to using our legs. Anyone who went to school after 1992 does so in mummy's 4x4, and as a result your legs are under-developed and you need seats - please ignore all sweeping generalisations in this post...

They will have to increase the gradient of the present terracing to effect this. At present it is far too shallow. Also the roof doesn't cover the front 4 or so rows, anyone sitting at the front - particularly in a prevailing west or southwest wind are going to get soaked.

That was me. Whilst they have the builders and scaffolders in, would it cost too much to put approx 30 metres of cover at the Swanscombe end - say from the corner to the goal?

It need not extend to the front - but enough to give 100 or so cover in the worst of the weather.

It would put us in a more favourable light and help our reputation as being a welcoming club for away fans.

I'm only a year younger than you Stu M if my memory serves correct as you were a year above me at St. John's R.C. Comp - So I don't see you as 1 of the old boys!

Anyway lets hope the seats behind the Plough are more "generously" proportioned in terms of leg space than the 1's in the main stand!

It's 'Wallis' Park, isn't it?

Having seats in front of standing room in one terrace/stand does sound like a bit of a strange set-up. I personally will always stand up at the football if possible, but if it helps us in our quest to comply with the ultimate Football League Membership Criteria (i.e. 2000 seats by your third season in the League - not to be confused with the Qualification Criteria of 500 seats with the ability to reach 1000) it has to be welcomed.

Not wishing to not believe what appears in the Reporter.....but.....are we sure that's right ? Seems a bit strange putting seats at the front of the Plough End and having people stand behind them ??

What's happens when everyone surges forward when a goal is scored ?

Not that there's been many intances of that recorded lately !

Would it not be better to put seats on the little terrace at the side of the main stand ?

Cheers,

Hmm, have been a footballing nomad around Stonebridge ever since they shut the stand and now find out that my usual spot will apparently be covered by seating.

Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing personally but that's only cos I might have to find a new spot.

Was looking forward to getting back there as I can't find anywhere else I like to watch the matches.

That stand being closed has not helped us towards the end of this season.
