Wow Darren you really do know your stuff don't you? Higher up the pyramid ay? So eloquent, so brave and so bold in your opinions and thoughts. A true leader of men who hide behind names. Why then, please explain as you clearly are the font of all knowledge, would anyone 'higher up' the pyramid want to come here? Because we have intelligent supporters like you? Because we have the potential for success? Because we have a wonder stadium? Because we have huge drawing potential for crowds? Or because they are failing footballers who can't make it at any other grade and are basically washed up. Of course we need more players from lower down the leagues with true potential, players we can sell on to survive.

I was thinking more along the lines of a scenario which would see us signing a striker with a proven goal-scoring record, a player who would do for us what Mark Stein did for Dagenham. Was he too 'washed up' for the conference? No. Do / did Dagenham have a 'wonder stadium'? I think not.

This club does have the potential for success - a possible new ground in the next few years, Ebbsfleet amongst other reasons.

My reply was in response to numbnuts suggesting that we sign players who haven't made the grade at other clubs in the same division. Perhaps you'd like to slag him off too?

As for signing players from lower divisions - yes, with the right blend of youth AND experience this club COULD go far.

I do hope however, on that idea, that Brian Kilcullen has more ambition for the club than you do.

Your words - 'players we can sell on to survive'.

Oh please! Let's just do that and stagnate, go nowhere? Then in a few years from now you can stand amongst an attendance of 350, playing some other mickey mouse team, recollecting on our glory days in the conference.

As for hiding behind a name - I'll leave you with the words 'pot', 'kettle' and 'black'.

he article on Kettering in yesterdays Telegraph was interesting - it seems they have introduced players straight into the first team from U18 and U19 sides (they have no reserves).

One 18 year old scored a 17 minute hattrick for them last season, and a 17 year old came off the bench to score both goals in their win on Saturday.

Given that they are currently in a play off place, it shows these things can work if done in the right way.

Mind you, Kettering do have one major problem at the moment - the freehold on their ground is held by someone who intends to build on the land, and their lease expires in 7 years, so they need to relocate but are bemoaning lack of support from the local council. Kind of makes you glad that our Council do, on the whole, seem committed to our club going forward - and at least our lease has a relocation clause built in.

Oooh, another 'think before you post scenario'.

Personally, I think that we should be looking for players from higher up the pyramid.

Was that aimed at Slarti? If so, surely he made a very valid point. Since when did GNFC manage to secure the services of anyone half-decent who lives north of the M25? Is that not what Mr Bartfast was trying to say?
