Well, I guess it depends what compression you use. I've been doing mine on 128kbps - it's possible your MP3's are a different compression.

You've got 8,500 tracks, which is actually substantially less than double the amount I have. So your 8,500 at 28gb is probably no different to my 4,900 at 17gb.

In fact, checking the maths, mine is roughly 288 songs per gig, and yours is 303 songs per gig, so no real difference at all.
