Supporters Club AGM 5th May 2005

Recommended Posts

Ron Thorns threw in the towel at the last meeting. I cannot reveal my source but I will say that get her drunk on wine and she'll tell you anything.

I also hear that Lucy is making a lot of noises at meetings and I'm wondering if she is planning to overthrough the current leader. I'll be watching with interest.

IW, no comment.

'Need to know' basis only, Rob. If that was public knowledge, any old Tom, Dick or Harry could be nominated. We only want the right sort of person on t'Committtee, you know.

Are you thinking of standing, Rob? I'll nominate/second you. I'll mention it at the meeting if you can't attend. Have you pre-ordered a season ticket for next term yet?

You could be Director in charge of I.T. You have a rudimentary knowledge.

Laz said: "IW, no comment." Thought so!

If you ask me, that Commercial Property Agent fella (sorry can't remember his name) should be chairman, or was that another throw back to '01 as well. How did that song go? "It shoulda been me, o'lordy lordy, it shoulda been me ..."

Some things change, some things stay the same.

That was a different sort of Chairman, IW. I'm voting for Mr & Mrs Zag, if they're standing. New young blood is what we need.

"New young blood....". WHAT!! You're not suggesting that there is anything err... err.. wrong with the existing Committee, I hope, Rob. Splendid bunch doing a splendid job. Poor choice of words on your part, perhaps?

'New young blood'. Dear-o-dear.

I think that Mr & Mrs Zag are just the sort of people if the Committee is to be able to respond positively to the changing face of Non League football in the 21st Century.

[Like me, and unlike Lucy, I have a hunch that Mrs Zag is quite keen on flares. In a properly controlled environment, of course.]

Not at all, AFF. But if people are standing down, an ideal opportunity for those with something to say to put themselves forward. Yourself?

Yes Rob, I agree. Joking aside, as a general principle, I think that it is healthy for there to be a turnover of people on a Committee of this kind. I wouldn't suggest that it is the case at t'Park, but people can get a little set in their ways and the thing can become stale.

I recall that the Constitution of the Supporters Club provides that members of the Committee serve for three years. Or it might be four? I suggested at last years AGM that they should look at revising the rules and present something different for consideration at the meeting this year. 'Members should be elected for two years but each year, one third of the members should stand down and offer themselves for re-election at the AGM' seems reasonable to me. On that basis, there will be continuity which is important but there will also be the opportunity each year for those interested to offer themselves to serve.

I feel that now, more than ever, it is most important that the Supporters Club have a strong Committee properly supported and assisted by all Saintsfans.

  • 2 weeks later...

It was the big election night last night, of course.

The new Committee of the Supporters Club is as follows:

Chairman: Ian Rogers.

Vice Chairman: Barry Hilliard

Secretary: Lucy Smith

Treasurer: Duncan McLeod

Member : Helen Christmas

Member : Sarah Hilliard

Member : Chris England

Member : Peter Knock

Member : Ken Allen

Member : Ian Bangs

Member : Robin Pearson

As predicted on here, Ron "The Raffle" Thoms and James "Vickie's husband" Brewer stood down and did not offer themselves for re-election. thanks for the help etc.

This is an apropriate moment to spare a brief thought, a few seconds of contemplation, for those who stood and did not achieve election. Those who thought that they could help in some small way and decided, after consultation with family and friends and, of course, much personal soul-searching, to offer themselves in the hope that their fellow men and women would recognise a small spark of hope for the future and favour them with a vote. An opportunity to make a small difference in a small way. At no thought of cost to themselves, far less personal gain. Shattered dreams. Lives in ruins where time will not heal the pain of rejection.

Well the good news is that the were none of those losers last night. 7 nominations for 7 places. No problemo.

An interesting meeting. I can't reveal any of the matters discussed. Its a secret. 'Need to know' basis only.
