Promotion from level 5

Recommended Posts

My understanding is:

Ryman 2 get automatic promotion

Other level 5's must play off.

Surley that is discrimination. I suppose the powers to be think they can get away with it because level 5 clubs would not be rich enough to mount a legal challenge.

ET, can you find a poorman's lawyer?

Two clubs were promised automatic promotion when the league was restructured last season,Of course that all depends on the ground grading issue.

Ilford and Brook House may struggle to meet the deadline of the 30th of April,Meaning no teams from the division gaining promotion this season,Enfield have passed because they play at our ground Ware FC,But they would still need to finish in the top two.

This has been discussed and clarified on the Ryman 2 forum - see the thread entitled "Ilford v Enfield semi-final".

There is no automatic promotion from Ryman 2. Subject to ground grading, the top two clubs will go into the play-off draw. RYman 2 get 2 places instead of "Champions only" from the other league because of the previous agreement between the FA and the Ryman League, made at the time of the restructuring.

What an absolute joke it all is! ALL champion sshould be promoted, subject to grading. Make the bottom two temas in Step 4 leagues play off, they're the failures!

So, why has the manager of Rushall Olympic saying that they have got automatic promotion in the piece on non-league daily?

Could it be because he 'knows' what I heard... there will not be any play-offs due to the fact that after gradings etc there are not enough teams who qualify!

Seems to me that at most only 3 clubs will be denied promotion as there are maximum 11 clubs that can be promoted and have appropriate ground grading.

The FA has to really consider their position as it is clearly unreasonable that 3 clubs are denied promotion due to a silly play off situation. If there has to be play-offs, and it is a big if, then surely bottom clubs should be involved.

However many teams are available at Step 5 for possible promotion should be joined in the play-offs by an extra number of teams from Step 4, over and above the usual four bottom pairs.

E.G. there are 11 hopefuls from Step 5 this season. So - we would enter the five teams in Step four immediately above the relegation zone who have the worst playing records (no 19th. placed team selected unless all 20th. placed teams are pre-selected) - to make up to 16 play-off sides with then 13 places available.

All first round play-off winners would be promoted[color:"red"]*¹, looking for five further promotees.

All losers enter second round and again all winners are promoted [color:"red"]*¹, leaving one place to be decided from 4 teams.

3rd. round eliminates two teams and they remain in Step 5 [color:"red"]*¹, leaving just two teams in the play-off final for the last remaining place [color:"red"]*¹ !

I'd suggest that each game is a "one off" to be decided on the day - possibly with seeding for ground advantage, although maybe neutral territory might be for the best. All gate receipts for the whole tournament to be equally divided by all sixteen entrants.

For this season, the final round would not be required in actuality - as there is most likely to be a requirement for an extra team to replace Spennymoor United who look like they will be expelled from the Unibond League and return to Step 5/6 if they do not close down altogether.

Effectively we would be looking for 14 teams from 16.

[color:"red"] *¹ - when promoted/relegated/remain etc. are used in the above description - they refer to Step 4 teams relegated as well as to Step 5 teams gaining promotion or teams from either retaining places in the competition in which they had membership in the past season.

And there was me thinking that the European documentation on aubergines was complicated. Surely, somebody at the FA should have sorted this out last August, and not wait to almost May to realise that there might be a small problem on the horizon come this weekend.

Oh the FA knew the problem was there; they just decided to ignore it in the hope that it would go away.

With the number of beer sponsorships they've organised over the years you'd think they had the resources necessary to organise the proverbial drinking session <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
