Todays Game

Drury was tripped, but he stood up for a split second ater the contact, realise he had lost the ball or at least a tiny bit of control and went down in a very delayed fashion. Penalty in the laws of the game but a good decision by the ref I think. If it was given against us I would have been seething, like most of the fans on here would.

Despite the score, had a good day.

Bit of a bitter sweet feeling as always the last game of the season. Wanting to congratulate the players that have really given there all this year, but at the same time, worried about how it all panned out and where we go from here.

A couple of other points either not mentioned here or just not noticed by me in my drunken state:

Well done to the young lads who won the trophies, champions of the future hopefully, they looked well chuffed as they walked around the pitch and rightly so.

And a big boo (not resorting to bad language) to those who couldn't keep their mouths shut during the minutes silence today, including the guy with the mobile, who felt the need to say twice, quite loudly, "I can't talk, there's a minutes silence", and the two stewards who were chatting away.

Let's hope if there's ever a minutes silence for any of you, the people in the ground are more gracious.

Not to end things on a bad note, the noise from our supporters today was great. It created an atmosphere that hopefully will bring people back next season (even if the noise drowned out the calling out of the 50/50 draw which we didn't win AGAIN!!

A lot of people on here seem to have been impressed by Deane yesterday but I thought he looked very lightweight and was easily muscled off the ball at times.

From the moment the team was announced it was obvious that only Jay or Jukebox could score for us and despite the pressure we put on them in the first half we never looked like scoring.

All those corners and freekicks and only Jay who can head a ball

Still it was good to see Groombridge and Moore get some time on the pitch.

Deane is not a quality player?

Thought he was our best player 1st half - full of enthusiasm and effort - won a couple of tackles he had no right to win and generally did well.

Yes he played well, and was full of effort, but he's not the type of player we need to progress, we need the likes of a Perkins, Wormull or Owen i.e. quality players. Ball winners we've got e.g. Saunders and Mckimm.

If it had occured outside the box no doubt it would have been given, so why are refs so reluctant to give them inside. Definitely caught from behind, I can only assume no card because the ref thought he stumbled

Er, isn't it the ref's job to enforce the laws of the game?

Exactly. It doesn't have to be either a card for diving or a penalty - the attacking player stumbling is always a possibility. Personally, I'm with Harry on this one - if there was contact (which I wasn't 100% sure about) then many referees would give it, but it's a shame to see attackers 'accepting' the opportunity of a touch from the defender and trying to lure the referee into giving a spot-kick.

Deane didn't impress me all that much yesterday - and how superb thinks Surey had a good game is beyond me. The sponsors probably got the MOTM right - if in doubt, Skins is usually a sensible choice.

Pleased to see Luke Moore finally come on, but Liam really should have started with him. Our recent combinations up front have been so poor that I really can't see how we would have had anything to lose by giving him a full 90 minutes today.

It was just one of those terrible games as a season peters out - summed up for me by a couple of calamitous second half incidents: Jacko falling over after an 'air-shot' and Conkers and Porter clashing heads after a lack of communication.

Definately right - Deane had an industrious game today putting a lot of effort in bless him but realy he did`nt hurt Burton at all (like the other players) or an even mediocre Moussa might. Players of that standars are really not the way forward. After a reasonable 1st half our 2nd period performance was dreadful. I was desparate for a slash with 15 to go and there were already 10`s of people leaving - its gonna take a lot of convincing to get some of those to come back or buy a season ticket. Yes we have got to give Daish a chance in the new season but I am gonna be a bit ubeasy this summer. There are too many things happening/changing at once.

David can vouch for me, I was not singing or celebrating Chelsea's success in any way.

I was obviously happy but not celebrating.

I was talking about when I do go.

Graham S asked if anyone knew how much the collection for Paul Sykes' had raised. It would be nice if someone could answer this. There must be someone who knows and I am sure that others like myself would like to know out of genuine concern for this family.
