as promised, here's the response from our labour councillor (I've put my initial email to her first so the context of her response makes sense)

Dear Ms MacTaggart,

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for all the support you've shown STFC in the last year. It's so nice to see an MP such as yourself supporting their local football team and many have witnessed you attending several matches this year.

I'm sure you've had a lot of correspondence such as this but I was interested to know what you plan to do to help our club if re-elected this

year. Whilst our good cup runs have provided a fair amount of money for our team, it isn't anywhere near enough to help sustain and improve our team's chances for continuing next season. With all the money troubles re: Martin Deaner (the main fundraiser for the club who hasn't been seen nor heard of for nearly a year) and our kind landlords in Windsor threatening to throw us out, it appears we really will need a lifeline of sorts to keep the club afloat.

Roy Merryweather and Eddie Denton work tirelessly to keep our team together and it would be such a shame to see the team go under due to lack of funding.

Re: Windsor's Stag Meadow, whilst we are all grateful for their kind hospitality which they have shown us the past few seasons, I'm sure you'd agree that the gate numbers and the pride of STFC would greatly improve if we were to play at a ground in Slough. Whenever we've hosted cheap/ free days for children, the gates have always increased. This is not something the club can currently afford to do regularly at them moment which is a crying shame. Having spoken to many slough residents, many cite the fact that they have to use public transport to get to Stag Meadow as a reason for not attending (as i'm sure you know this journey is a nightmare via rail or

> bus) This leads me onto my next point.

Aside from money, we also need somewhere to build a ground, since I believe the chance of returning to our former home, Wexham Park , is now out of the question due to the Thorne family. What would you do to encourage a move back to Slough?

With your permission, I'd like to post your reply on the Slough Town Fans Forum. I think a lot of the fans would appreciate knowing what your response to our crisis would be and it may even benefit you in the coming election.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this, I shall look forward to your response.

Dear Charlie

Thank you very much for your email. I ahve always tried to give my

support to Slough Town FC and loyal supporters wherever possible. As

you know over the yearswe have had many trials and tribulations over

the future of the club. Sadly the exciting scheme that Martin Deaner

was proposing to the previousLabour Council was cancelled by the new

administration with nothing in pace to help the club.

At present I believe that Mr Deaner is still prepared to fund the club

although he is taking a back seat in the running of it. Like you I

think it is sad that the club has to play outside the town, however

good our hosts at Windsor have been, and would welcome any scheme

which secured the long term future of the club in the town. I have

written recently to the council leader asking for an update on their

progress at finding a ground for the club as they have been silent for

over 10 months now.

Also, despite the fact that they are no longer control the council, I

can assure you that Labour councillors are still working on your

behalfto try and find a solution for the club. So although it may

seem that nothing has happened for long periods, when the time comes I

will do all I can to help support the club and get a facility that the

whole town can be rightly proud of. Good luck for the rest of the

season especially in the Bryco Cup final!

Up the Rebels!

Best wishes Fiona

SO IT APPEARS AT LEAST FIONA'S HEARD FROM MR DEANER!

That was a good initiative Charlie, and a well-written letter. As the previous person said I don't think we can expect a lot more from Fioan Mactaggart in the circumstances. I think it's very important to keep her "onside" and publicly sympathetic to STFC, and that might mean holding back some of our aggression and frustration when communicating with her. Our predicament isn't her fault, but she just might contribute to the solution.

I wrote a similar letter to Richard Stokes a while ago. I won't bore you with his glib response. I will continue to mistrust all of the politicians until they prove me wrong. Words are cheap. It's action we want.

in response to your responses

a) thank you for your kind words

and B) whislt i agree politicians are about as reliable as a plumber's estimate, its still nice to see the "party line" as it were re: our club and as Rod very deftly says, its important to keep them 'onside'

I wasn't criticising your efforts, Charlie, and Fiona does more than most for our club. I'm just bored with words and would like to see either someone get off their backside and do something or at least talk to the people that really matter, i.e. us.

There is a meeting tonight chaired by Martyn Brown at the Observer with all the local candidates at a local school tonight (can't remember what one!) where residents can put questions to each candidate.

I have asked him to raise the issue of stfc returning to slough by asking each candidates stance on this.

ooh good would someone be kind enough to post their responses on here?

The panel were asked "If you were elected what would you do the get Slough Town Football club back playing in Slough"

Jazz Khan bluffed it well, talking about "We can do it together". Abysmal responses from Gunn and the Lib Dem who obviously had no idea of the issue (and wittered on about Prescott building houses and ignored the question totally).

Howard prattled on about history and had reached 1997 when his time ran out, so he avoided answering the question. Janik wants a public enquiry (quite what into, the lord only knows).

The green canditates response was so sonambulistic I have no idea what it was. Fiona MacTaggart knew her stuff, said she is exploring an alternative to Kennedy park with Deaner, and spoke of the club helping give the town a needed sense of identity.
