Another Beatles List...NME'S Top Beatles Albums

1. 'Revolver' (35.3%)

2. 'Abbey Road' (21.1%)

3. 'The White Album' (19.2%)

4. 'Sgt. Pepper' (8.3%)

5. 'Rubber Soul' (7.5%)

6. 'A Hard Day's Night' (1.9%)

7. 'Help' (1.5%)

8. 'Magical Mystery Tour' (1.5%)

9. 'Yellow Submarine' (1.1%)

10. 'Please Please Me' (0.8%)

Hmmmm...think I'd put "For Sale" in for "Yellow Submarine"...and MMT wasn't originally an album but I'd go for the top 5...

Yes, I wouldn't disagree much with that.

In fact, with the exception of The White Album at number one, I think the Top 7 are identical to a personal list I did some while back!!

Agree that Hard Days Night is best of 'early Beatles'. I love the 'originals' on Beatles For Sale, but as previously mentioned, I'm not a fan of the rock'n'roll stuff so much.

I would imagine that ignorant NME readers voted for the re-release of Yellow Submarine rather than the original with the George Martin score.

I generally wouldn't include MMT in a Top 10 list for the reason you've mentioned, but if I did, it would it would come just outside the Top 5, probably between Rubber Soul and Hard Days Night.

Very good list that - much better than Channel 4's Top 100!!

As an aside, I was listening to Every Little Thing earlier and noticed that although Lennon takes lead vocal, it was actually written by Paul.

I'm wondering if I can think of any other instances of Paul singing a John song, or John singing a Paul song??

I know Ringo and George sung a few Lennon/McCartney originals (Yellow Submarine, Good Night, Do You Want To Know A Secret etc.), but there can't be too many John/Paul reversals.

The Mark Lewisohn book? LP-sized, so fits nicely into the record cabinet!

Yes, I had that excellent book too. Emphasis on the word "had". No idea what happened to it, but my 1968 original copy of the White Album, complete with photos and poster went missing too around the same time, along with a couple of other Beatle books.

Yep that is the book...It came out in a hard back and then a flimsy back book...got both as I never wanted to damage the hard back... The hard back is out but the flimsy is in the loft...If I can be arsed, I'll get it down for you...
