Worrying if true

If I recall correctly, Peter Wanless indicated on here that the capacity was reduced by closure of the Northfleet End, while David Holden argued that the capacity would be unaltered, since no exits were being obstructed by the terrace's closure. Both standpoints certainly seemed plausible.

As Stu indicates, we really need clarification on whether we merely need to provide evidence to the Conference that the work will be completed by the start of next season, or whether work has to be physically done by the deadline (June 11th is the date of the AGM), before we start panicking about this. Official clarification from the club would be greatly appreciated.

What £75,000+ for the terrace repairs in one sum? You are joking aren't you? This is more than our total rolling sponsorship deal! We cannot rely on Mr G for this money. kmj.

I'm not talking about our existing sponsorship.
Mr G has severed ties with Crawley & has also indicated that he may be willing to invest more money in our club as he finds us welcoming and friendly.
On that basis, the possibilty is there.

Of course, the other 'immediate action' option would be to;

i) Find out what our current capacity is with the Northfleet stand closed.

ii) Find out whether the capacity of the remaining 3 sides can be increased with a few minor alterations that maybe can be done cheaply.

If this could be done then we would have more time to sort out the Northfleet end?

However, the criteria for promotion to the Conference from the feeder leagues, let alone the criteria for promotion to the League, state that:

"It must be possible for spectators to view the match, either standing or seated, for the full length of all 4 sides of the playing area. Other configurations may be accepted at the Conference Board's discretion."

So your suggestion may not be feasible.

I've spoken to Brian and the position is that the conference have not been in touch with us regarding any deadline for completing the work at the Northfleet end which will be finished in time for the start of next season.

They have queried our capacity with the Northfleet end closed, and there will be a meeting next week which will include the Fire Brigade, and they will confirm that the capacity is still in excess of 4,000.

The query follows a letter from the chairman of a conference club following a recent match at Stonebridge Road. However it should be noted that it is still our club's policy to maintain our conference status on the pitch rather than off the pitch.

Jumping to conclusions arn't you? We were not the only relegation bound club to play at your place lately. Canvey when they played you were also in clear danger of going down I should find out the facts before you name clubs.

Taken from Confguide news:

'Our original (very reliable) source for the information took the information from the minutes of a Conference Board Meeting of 10th March. I don't think there's any real contradiction here, the club has to get the capacity up to 4,000, whatever work that requires.'

10th March? But Rovers payed at your place after that did they not?

Appologies please.

It might be a bit of fun for you but you lot are dragging the FGR name through the mud which is offensive to me as a Rovers supporter.

I see FleetFanatic is quick to slag us off on the confguide but not man enough to appologise on there.

I see no reason why any other clubs in the league who have spent hard earned money to keep their grounds up to scratch should not have the right to query a ground which has had sections closed off which have seemingly been condemned. Fair play I would have thought that your ground was large enough to accomodate the unused bits anyway but rules are rules. If everything is fine as it now appears to be then the case is closed.

But an appology by FleetFanatic on confguide would be appreciated.

I agree with the FGR fan. We should not be so fast in future to blame those that we think are in the wrong. You have to remember that since the end has been shut we have played a number of teams that have been in relegation trouble, Tamworth and Canvey are two that spring to mind. Also who said it was a relegation club chairman, it could have been anyone.

True, Dave didn't mention the word relegation.

It's a worry though and it all feels very much like last year, where if I remember correctly, none of the bottom 3 went down because of other teams problems.

It would seem very harsh to boot us out if we are able to get all the work done before the new season starts though.

And as for the poster above who asked why other teams shouldn't have the right to query our ground, I say why would you want to? What the hell does it have to do with any other club. They should keep their damn noses out. We had names for people like that at school lol.
