Chelmsford 2-1 Billericay

Recommended Posts

Bit of an end of season feel about this one, Chelmsford clearly up for it, we seemed a touch lethargic at times.

First half was mostly end to end stuff, we had a couple cleared off the line after Nicholls went walkabout, they hit the post through Julian Edwards. Edwards gaeve them the lead after Mel had saved a shot from Gary Ansell, who was about 2 metres offside when he received the ball. We got a deserved equaliser when Ansell prodded home after a good through ball from Armstrong

Second half was more than a bit scrappy with plenty of wayward passing. Gave away a soft goal and never really got back into it after that. Having lost Gallagher in the first half, Dorms going off at half time was, for me, the turning point as we never looked anything like as well balanced in midfield after that, tended to get very narrow.

Few unecessary scenes after the game when one of the City fans threw a punch at Mel and got thrown out, then another who had had too much to drink tried to start an argument in the bar afterwards.

This was a total reversal of the last game against city, this time it was them who hurried us and didnt give us time on the ball. For me the most dissapointing thing was that we didnt really work their keeper. Apart from our goal he never had a shot to save that I can remember (maybe wrong). Agree with Simon, we never had much shape in midfield and our full backs were not able to push up and help in attack. I think when you consider they hit the post and mel pulled off two great saves that you have to admit city were maybe good for the win as much as it hurts to admit.

A bit puzzled why they were so over the top with their celebrations at the end? the result had no bearing to their season yet you would have thought they won the league last night. I guess its a compliment that a team feels such achievement in beating us and myabe from their point of view avenged the defeat at easter but even so....for their manager to run to their supports (must have nearly killed him!) to celebrate was a touch over the top.

Im sure the lads know what is required of them on saturday. heads up!

iron, i dont think it matters if a team is mid table when its a local team. We simply had a bad night, nothing more or less. I doubt the players were over confident, im sure they knew that chelmsford would be out for revenge and would have a tougher game than the last one. We got beaten but have the quality in the team to forget this and do better in the next game.

Simon, don't know from where you were viewing but assume you referring to the same 'MEL' that tried to clamber over the fence to attack someone?

Unfortunately during the second half it was evident he was getting more and more wound up as
the game progressed.

For my money Paul G is a far better keeper and if he had been playing last night you would probably have got at least a draw.

Best of luck in the play-offs, but don't take Eastleigh too lightly ...

I think it's the first time in ages that the opposition has created far more chances than ourselves. Personally, the sooner we can get McSweeney & Sappleton back together the better. Other than that it was just a sloppy performance. Our pride is hurt, but unlike the Squatters season, ours is not over. This game should also be served as a reminder that even average, inferior sides like Chelmsford can suitably 'raise thier game' to cause an upset.

cant believe we dropped to there level , awful performance not made any better by the yeading score. There fans only piped up when in front, some unsavoury scenes at the end

Oh dear, that really the best (lame) excuse you can muster, Observer? You lost for the first time in umpteen matches to a team that created a few more chances - get over it!

What gets me is that someone hit Mel and he reacts...None of the Chelmsford guys have said, "Ooooppppsss, shouldn't have happened, gotta police this, sorry".

Instead it's "your keeper was out of order"!!! Jeez, is that what becomes of not having your own ground...that your club no longer takes responsibility for the behaviour of it's supporters!!!

And the final is on the 7th. I'm still counting if I should go or not, I'm very tempted, but my wallet is empty... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Wellwell...

Think perhaps you expected a lot of your team

especially after our previous meeting and your last result at Slough.

Too many long balls into the area for Nathan and co. and wasn't the same movement and passing as in the previous fixture. The main difference IMO was we played two up front which caused your defence big problems and were assisted by the tactic of your back-four being told to play up on the half-way line. Condensed all the play, left very little room in which to work the ball and also left you wide open to attack - case in point our first goal. Mel could have stopped our second goal.... but, als for you was not to be.

Anyhow, it's a past match now so onwards to Saturday and Kingstonian for us....best of luck at H+R - hope you stuff 'em!

To be honest, you learned the lesson of when we beat you Easter Bank Holiday. We gave you no space to move, reduced you to a long ball game and pushed you back...last night, you did the same to us. The teacher became the pupil...

Yep, I agree that it's in the past and we have to concentrate on getting those 4 points to secure a home draw in the play off's.

Many thanks for the compliment about the music....I do try.
