Canvey Island 4 0 York City

A fantastic performance tonight in our last home game of the season. We put in a scintillating display of attacking football as we were able to relax and play our natural game.

After 5 minutes we took the lead, thanks to a great goal by Lee. Jason Hallett who was superb all night did brilliantly to put the ball into Lee's path and he turned and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.

We could have gone further ahead with the keeper making a decent save and Hallett heading over.

York did have their chances but Danny saved twice in one on one situations and made a couple more saves in the second half. Nothing was going to get past him tonight!!

The second goal was absolutely sublime. Lee was released down the right and put in a great cross that was cleared to Ollie on the edge of the box. He adjusted his body and hit a sweet first time volley into the top corner. Absolutely superb!!

We threatened to run riot after that. Duffers had a shot saved and Jason was denied by the keeper when clean through.

The third goal was also a beaut. Ollie picked the ball up in midield and made a surging run. He found Mints who picked up the ball and picked out Ollie's forward run into the box. Ollie broke clear and finished in style. A great team goal!!

The second half saw more of the same. We hit the bar and a great move saw Lee head over Midgers' cross.

York did look a threat and at times our defending was a bit lacklustre. York couldn't finish and when the forwards broke through Danny was always there to deny them and we quick to get rid of the rebounds.

The fourth goal came after Ollie beat several players but stumbled at the final moment. Midge was there to poke the rebound home.

We finished the game in style with Duffers having a couple of efforts and every time we attacked we looked like scoring.

A fantastic performance and great atmosphere. Jason Hallett was quite superb up front winning everything in the air and showing great close control. Mints was back to his best and Sedgy had a great game in midfield breaking up and starting attacks.

Lee was quality and Ollie quite outstanding. Two superb goals could have had a hattrick. He seems reborn after his dissapointing recent spell.

Danny was outstanding in goal. In fairness we were a bit sloppy at the back and York probably should have got on the scoresheet.

Our attacking play was class. We played with no fear and took York apart at times. It was a joy to watch but unfortunately you can only really play like that when the pressure is off.

817 there tonight. Great crowd and great conga at the end. Bunch of nutcases but what superb support!!!

Brilliant night. Well done Canvey. It's great to end the season on a high!!

I couldn't see him being able to face Conference teams week in week out just yet. Really was great in the air though and whenever all the other players had left the ball to go off for a throw he'd sprint down the line and keep it on.

He didn't really look a great threat when he had the ball on the floor, but did have one header which could easily of gone in.

Really great way to end the Home season last night.

Hallett has definitely got the potential to be a real star of the future. He played earlier this season against Hereford and looked to be a bit out of his depth. Last night he linked superbly with Lee and it looks like he has a great future at the club.
