Basildon v Town latest

Recommended Posts

Hard fought and important win tonight.

First half was a fairly tense affair with not many clear-cut chances. Both players struggled to keep their feet and string passes together on a pitch badly in need of a mow. Town played five across the middle again and were again looking nervous with the finishing line approaching.

Second half saw Town perform much better and deservedly win the game. The first goal came after a header (I was unsighted as to who it was from) looked like it was going to be cleared by the No. 3 on the post but he lashed it into his own top corner. Shortly after Bas had a man dismissed for two yellows but it wasn't until injury time until Town made it safe, Russell Penn meeting a Rudi Hall free-kick and heading his first for the club.

The Ref? I've mixed feelings about him. He does a lot of things well, including often looking to play the advantage and keep the game going. On the flip side he consistantly halts play for non-head injuries and often stops teams attacking. He wasn't helped tonight by two mediocre linesman though who got some simple decisions wrong. The worst incident came towards the end where were awarded a free-kick after the Bas player picked the ball up since everyone had stopped when the ball seemed to have gone out. The lino then put his flag up but too late for unfortunate Bas man. I know, play the whistle and all that but I think every player knew it had gone out!

Bas were far from the worst side we've played this season, a young team with a lot of pace who will surely get better if they stay together, a la Waltham Abbey.

All in all a good result and a good second half performance.

First half was nothing to text home about.

ETFC got going in the second half and it showed with the amount of possession we had. I have to say that the delivery from set pieces left a lot to be desired. Corners straight to opponents. Free kicks going nowhere.

However, once we scored, there was no looking back.

Value for money again as the game ran overtime due to the number of times players went down which meant the ref obviously had to stop the game.

Here's looking forward to Saturday.

Chopper had very little to do - but what he did he did adequately.

Basildon seemed to be under instruction to shoot on site and chopper is the best shot stopper in the league. He has been beaten from long range efforts but these are usually floated balls swirling in strong winds. Most players are wasting their time with long shots outside the area on the volley!

The performance by the Town in the second half was championship material. But give Bas their due they did not give up.

Better than Stanstead and Sarfend theough. The pitch was a disgrace and was only fit to play with oval balls.

Well done on a good second half performance lads. We deserved that.

What was up with their keeper, he ran all the way to the half way line ofr a shoving match. Grow up that man.

Totally disagree, Basildon is the worse ground in our league.

i can only think of a few places that is good to play on. romford, barkingside at beginning of season but was disgustin pitch few weeks ago, towns pitch was not good beginning of season but looks in great shape at moment and watham abbeys pitch saturday was no disgrace although was in bad shape at xmas time.

with regards to facilities changing rooms at barkingside are up there and the showers at tilbury(eton manor) were a "right touch".

basildon, hullbridge, southendmanor, sawbo, stansted, concord, bowers are not pleasant! havent been to bowers yet tho so basing it on last season.changing rooms at southen manor are nice and big but thats as good as it gets.

sorry to seem bias but i genuinely believe burnham is the best ground in the league.
