My answer to a query on a club forum may be of interest to readers here :-

 

 

 

" My apologies to you worthy gentlemen for being so slow in responding to your query but I am knee deep in up-dating the League History ..... The answer is going to shock I am afraid so I will temper it by saying that, in modern times we need not go back too far, just to that memorable afternoon on May 6th 2002 at Gardiners Close, Basildon when Enfield Town met Leyton .... 658 watched the Final .... but, the record, also at Gardiners Close was on 14th May 1977 when Billericay Town beat Bowers Utd 1-0 and 1,375 flocked in !!!!!!

 

As a matter of interest, with two league games to go on 21st May 1977, Billericay were praising their supporters.... there had been 19,832 watching at an average of 902 all season - incredible !!!! and a record I personally cannot see being broken ? "
