It was a real double act. Ports absolute killer instict anywhere within 35 yards, blistering pace, 2 great feet and superb in the air, combined with Cotters telepathic understanding of Portways runs.

Oh, and Cotts wasn't a bad goalscorer either.

Portway still playing last season:

In the Eastway Essex Senior League, Southend Manor moved close to unbeaten leaders Waltham Abbey and consolidated their position in second place when they beat London APSA at Aveley by 4-1. Hodges, Jay, Kemp and Cheesewright scored for the visitors whilst Shah replied for the hosts. Enfield beat Brentwood Town at home by 1-0 with a goal from Negus.

 

 

Burnham Ramblers were leading 3-0 at half-time at home to Bowers & Pitsea with goals from Holmes and a Steve Portway double but proceeded to throw it away in the second half. Reeve scored a hat trick for the visitors, which included two penalty conversions late on.

I'm sure Ports played under Andy for a while. Ford brought him back but let him go again.

Er, yes, you're right - he was there at the beginning of the 1998/1999 season according to an old programme I've just dug out. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
